DANGER OF SNAKE POISON

Bible In One Year-Day253 (Wednesday, September 10, 2014)

Commentary: Job28-30. Job touched the most important things in the life a man, WISDOM and UNDERSTANDING. Man is able to explore beyond where the feet could reach as narrated by Job in Job28:1-11, but wisdom became a mystery that could not be explored in the earth or in the depth of the sea. Hence, the question of where to find wisdom became a concern.

Job 28:12 But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?”

Because of the inability of man to quantify wisdom, he does not know the value it. Unfortunately, wisdom is not a material thing but a thing of the spirit.

Isaiah 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;”

This was the teaching of Job. Job manifested all these gifts according to chapter29 Since God is Spirit, then everything that has to do with Him must take root in the spirit. The reverence of Him is the beginning of wisdom and not getting involved in anything that brings shame to Him, i.e. that which identifies with the devil, is understanding.

Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear (reverence) of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.” (Parenthesis is mine emphasis)

Job’s respect for and fear of God was in his relationship and love for the needy, fatherless, lame and destitute.

MLB Job 29:12-17 For I delivered the wretched who appealed for help, the orphan and him who had no helper. Those who would have perished, blessed me, and I made the widow’s heart sing with joy. Thus I put on righteousness and my fairness dressed me as robe and turban. “I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. I was a father to the poor, and I investigated the court cases of persons whom I did not know. I broke the grinder teeth of the unfair and forced them to drop their prey.”

The whole of chapter29 tells of his status before the satanic attack. Unfortunately, when the hedge was broken and the serpent struck and the poison broke down or degraded his flesh, Job became a thing of mockery and reproach to those who once respected him.

Job 30:1 But now they mock at me, men younger than I have me, whose fathers I disdained to put with the dogs of my flock.” (NKJV)

This is the state of man now. When God created Adam and Eve, His glory protected them from every form of attack and all animals respected man because of the glory of God in their lives. Unfortunately, when the old serpent struck, the hedge of protection was broken by the poison of the serpent which became sin in the body. Since then, animals have regarded men as enemies and even mosquitoes started biting man.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

This sin in the body is what has subjected man to death.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

Galatians5:19-21 reveals the outcome or products of the poisoned the body. The very moment a child is born, he or she has started to die, though it seems as maturing or growing. But the word of God, which is Spirit and Life to those who receive and believe, will quicken the dying soul. This is the redemptive work of Christ. Believing in Him gives us eternal life though the body is dying.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The wisdom in Job lies in the fear of God and the integrity is in his uncompromising attitude even in serious attack and discomfort. Job maintained a good relationship with God when others rejected him; he remained blameless, i.e. his heart did not deviate from the course of righteousness.

Salvation is free, beloved, but maintaining our salvation (faithfulness) is the required integrity that can make us blameless before God. Salvation is obtained by FAITH but we have to remain FAITHFUL to make heaven. Job was faithful even unto death.

Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)”

Revelation 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the demon shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful to death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Job31-33. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

THE DOCTRINES OF DEMONS

Bible In One Year-Day 252 (Tuesday, September 09, 2014)

Commentary: Job25-27. Job’s friends spoke powerful words which seemed wise but Job could discern that a strange spirit was actually speaking through them.

Job 26:4 To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?”

It is wrong and quite not biblical to call the devil “foolish” The Bible did not at any time call the devil a fool but those who follow his counsel are regarded as fools. Job refused to be fooled with wise talks. This should be the position of Christians.

1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

Christians have been trapped due to inability to discern which spirit counseled them. They unconsciously listened to the wise sayings of Satan (Doctrines of Demons) and have been led into regrettable state. Job said he will never approve their wise words because of the spirit speaking through them just as Jesus rebuked the spirit that spoke through Peter, Luke4:7-8.

MLB Job 27:5 Be it far from me that I should acknowledge you to be right; till I die I will not sacrifice my integrity.”

Every Christian should pray for discernment of spirits otherwise they would be tossed here and there.

Hebrews 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.”

Satan can preach very well and he could also quote scriptures to back up his sermons. Remember that the bible makes us to understand that he sometimes appears as an angel of light. This is his trick from the beginning and has not changed. He used the trick on Adam and Eve and succeeded. He used it on Jesus but failed. He is still using it on Christians. To remain blameless before God and steadfast as Christians, we need discernment.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of demons;”

By our natural being, we cannot succeed against Satan; we need the Holy Spirit to help us to overcome his tactics. Jesus was led by the Spirit to the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. Jesus emphatically told His disciples never to go start any ministry work without being endued with power by the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.”

The victims of his sermon are the weak at heart, ‘unserious’ Christians, ‘prayerless’ Christians, the religious Christians, etc. The integrity of Job towards God remained unshakeable even in his unthinkable trials.

MLB Job 27:2-6 “As God lives, who has taken away my right, and the Almighty, who has embittered my soul, as long as I live and God’s breath is in my nostrils, my lips will not speak an untruth, neither shall my tongue utter deceit. Be it far from me that I should acknowledge you to be right; till I die I will not sacrifice my integrity. I hold on to my integrity and will not let it go; my conscience does not accuse me, not one single day.”

The breath of God is His spirit in us and this is grace; Job wouldn’t let grace depart from him. All may go, beloved, don’t let grace depart. If grace departs, a man is absolutely empty.

We need to know that Job’s righteousness was not in the strength of his flesh, but in his faith towards God. He was in agreement with God’s judgment even if he had sinned against God and therefore wanted a Mediator and a Redeemer. Job’s faith and hope in God justified his blamelessness before God. Our belief in the Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is also in line with Job’s justification. However, we should retain our salvation by being steadfast in hard and difficult times.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Job28-30. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

MAN’S OPINION IS A BLIND SPOT

Bible In One Year-Day 251 (Monday, September 8, 2014)

Commentary: Job22-24. Man has his opinion and God has His plans. The opinion of man, no matter how religious it is, cannot perfect God’s plan which is the final stage in everything. Jesus revealed God’s plan concerning His coming to the earth to His disciples but Peter used his opinion to reject God’s plan for Jesus.

MLB Matthew 16:21-24 From then on Jesus began to show (reveal) His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer much from the elders, priests and scribes, and be killed, and raised on the third day. Then Peter, leading Him aside, began to remonstrate with Him: “Mercy on You, Lord; this must never happen to You!” But, turning around, He said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan, you are a snare to Me; for you are not taking the divine view but man’s.Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to walk after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross and follow Me;”

Peter stood on man’s point of view from which Satan used him without knowing. The warning afterwards was that whoever wants to follow Jesus must drop his or her view and just follow His words or instruction. Many Christians are doing just like that today; they use human wisdom to view God’s plan and His word. This has led a lot into error.

Mark 12:24 And Jesus answering said to them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures (God’s instruction and plan), neither the power of Godl (life and irrevocable truth)?”

Hebrews 3:10 “Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.”

Job’s friends eloquently presented their case but because they stood on man’s view point, they greatly err. They accused Job of wronging God in his ways of life.

Job 22:4-5 Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment? Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?”

They missed it because of their standpoint of view. When man starts putting the wisdom of man into God’s word rather than being led by His Spirit, power departs from that word spoken. When man starts using the plan of man to achieve God’s agenda, he will deviate from God’s map.

2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”

Job’s friends’ statements looked godly, but they were actually empty words because God was not in it. When you look at peoples’ problems to prophesy without asking what the Spirit actually says, Satan can use that to put a curse or seal on the victim. Job’s friends couldn’t differential between trying times and judgment times; they wrongly concluded because they were standing on the blind spot. Man’s opinion in God’s agenda is a blind spot which can result into serious crash. Peter stood in that spot and he became an offense to the Lord. Job’s friends also stood there and they became offenses to Job. From their points of view, Job’s life was tending towards untimely death.

MLB Job 22:15-16 “Will you keep to the old way which wicked men have walked, who were untimely snatched away, their foothold washed out by a deluge?”

Unlike his friends, Job’s point of view was in the attributes of God, the giver of hope and life in difficult times and most merciful who will rescue from destruction by the abundance of His grace.

Job 23:8-10 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.”

Though Job was troubled and discomforted on every side, God was working for him by grace, yet not seen. A man of destiny must be TRIED, TESTED and APRROVED.

1 Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”

It could be rough, beloved, there is hope.

Psalms 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.”

When you lay aside man’s opinion and embrace God’s instructions, you will eventually realize that God’s plan includes what you are going through. The plan of God for Joseph included the pit, Potiphar’s house and the prison. This path perfected him for the dream he had. To get there, watch out for the blind spots.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Job25-27. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

GUARD YOUR HEART

Bible In One Year-Day 250 (Sunday, September 07, 2014)

Commentary: Job19-21. Comfort was withdrawn from Job on all sides except in his heart where God never gave permission for Satan to touch. He became a reproach to everybody. His friends tormented him with the words of their mouth

Job 19:2 How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?”

The enemy struck Job with the smell of rejection, his servants couldn’t stay by him and his wife stood afar from him. His relatives abandoned him in his condition. Chapter19 reveals his experience in total discomfort. The friends’ words in chapter 20 were the true position when considering the wicked but lacked life because it was directed at the innocent and pure in heart, Job. As far as they were concerned, Job’s predicament was as a result of secret sin on the part of Job and that his wickedness has brought the calamity upon him. Satan made them believe that Job was suffering for what he has sown. Their conclusion is;

MLB Job 20:28-29 All that was accumulated in his house is moved out in the day of His wrath. This is the wicked man’s lot from God and the legacy allotted him of God.”

Their words became mockery because Job refused to consent to their misconception. Their words were empty words and Job rejected their words.

Job 21:34 How then comfort ye me in vain (empty words), seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?”

In his response to their empty words, he made them rethink of their utterances.

Job 21:7 “Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?”

That is to say wealth is not a yardstick to regarding one as walking right with God. The wicked also become rich with worldly comfort around him. This is one of the parables of the Lord Jesus in Luke16:19-31.

Luke 16:15 And he said to them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.”

Jesus made several statements about the rich, not to condemn wealth, but to let us know that our hearts should be specifically directed at the giver of wealth, just like Job’s heart. In his heart he wished to see the Redeemer, the Lord Jesus when he dies. Job guarded his heart from sinning against God.

Job 19:25-27 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.”

Job was not moved by death to deny God. In the Old Testament, the Redeemer is the Lord and the New Testament made us to know that Jesus Christ is that Redeemer (the Savior and the Rescuer). Job needed a rescuer and hopes for Him even after death. Purity of heart is the only thing that can make us see Him after death.

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”

The difference between the godly and the ungodly is where their hearts focus on; the godly is not carried away by the things of this world but focuses on the things of heaven, unlike the ungodly who pursues the things of this world and not the thing of God. This is the plan of Satan. He worked on Peter, but Jesus knew that it was not Peter speaking to Him.

Matthew 16:23 But he turned, and said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offense to me: for thou savorest not the things that are of God, but those that are of men.”

The thinking of believers should be quite different from the way the unbelievers think. The thoughts of the godly should be different from the thoughts of the ungodly. What the Christians pursue should be different from what the worldly pursues (Matt6:19). Just as Job guarded his heart we should guard our hearts from evil because as a man thinks, so is he as far as God is concern. You may appear godly to men, God will call you by what goes on in your hearts. Jesus called Peter “Satan” because Satan had taken over his heart at that time; this does not mean that Peter was Satan, but his heart became a place for Satan to fill. The things that go on in your heart are what have taken over you. Satan can fill the heart of man and speak like a godly person;

Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land?”

If not for the Holy Spirit, Ananias would have been given the best position in the church because of his gift to the church; he sold his property but gave with wrong motive.

Beloved, the state of our hearts matters. We need to guard it diligently against satanic occupancy.

MLB Philippians 4:7-8 So will the peace of God, that surpasses all understanding, keep guard over your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is kindly spoken, whatever is lofty and whatever is praiseworthy—put your mind on these.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Job22-24. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

GET UNDERSTANDING

Bible In One Year-Day 249 (Saturday, September 06, 2014)

Commentary: Job16-18

Job 17:1 My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.”

This was Job’s statement in his unbearable situation. His friends remained a problem to him in words. The conclusion of Job concerning his friends was really true, even though the friends looked at themselves as saying the only truth. Job said that they lacked the understanding of what he was passing through.

Job 17:4 For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.”

Understanding is very crucial in life. To have knowledge is quite different from having understanding. This is God’s admonition to us; have understanding.

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

To get understanding is to have insight into a situation. It is to have the light of the Holy Spirit shone in the heart. It is to receive teaching from the Holy Spirit. For instance, Apostle Paul had knowledge (as taught by men) before he met Jesus Christ but lacked the understanding of the scripture. Therefore, he persecuted the Apostles and the Christians. But when he met Christ in the light he had never seen before, in the glory that left him blind, everything about him changed. The teaching of Christ in that revelation gave him the certificate to be a messenger of truth.

Galatians 1:11-12 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Understanding helps us in so many ways. Some of them are:

  1. We stop pleasing men but God, Gal1:10
  2. We receive direct teaching from Christ, Gal1:12
  3. The truth is revealed, Gal1:16
  4. We are rightly led, Gal2:2
  5. The will of God becomes the goal, focus and pursuit.
  6. You know your divine assignment.
  7. You rejoice at your persecution by the ignorant.
  8. You do not become slaves to ‘prophets’, Gal1:16
  9. You are not tossed about by any doctrine but remain steadfast in Christ Jesus.
  10. You become satisfied with the precepts of God designed for your life, Psa119:104.
  11. Position and material things of this world becomes meaningless to you, Prov16:16.
  12. You will hate evil, Psa119:104
  13. You know where situations end.
  14. You when somebody is still relevant in your life and when the person is done.
  15. You will know when to talk and when to be quiet.
  16. You will love what God loves and hate what He hates.
  17. You will not sin even in trying, difficult and hard times.
  18. Your judgment will be a righteous one, 1King3:9/ Isa11:3
  19. You know goodness from evil. Prov19:8
  20. Your dwelling will be with the wise, Prov21:16
  21. You become a mystery to people, John3:7-8

Understanding is absolutely the impartation of the Holy Spirit.

Exodus 35:31 And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship;”

You need the fullness of the Holy Spirit to get understanding. You can be taught by men, i.e. you acquire knowledge from the teaching of men, but understanding (i.e. revelation) is of the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;”

Seek for understanding in all your ways and you shall be exalted.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Job19-21. Keep the fire of burning and alive.
