Bible In One Year-Day 199 (Thursday, July 18, 2013)

Commentary: Proverbs16-18. When you put wisdom and asset side by side, it is better to choose wisdom and putting understanding side by side money, choose understanding. This is the message of Proverbs16:16.

Proverbs 16:16 “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!”

These two things, wisdom and understanding, are the treasures that moth cannot eat. Whoever has them becomes treasure that the rich seeks after. The man with understanding has the key to the treasure of darkness and able to open the secret places.

Isaiah 45:3 “And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.”

There is something we ought to know; people’s need is not entertainment or eloquence of speech but life. When they see somebody who gives life, i.e. food for the spirit, they go there. The person that has the life people want is that person who has understanding.

Proverbs 16:22 “Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.”

Wisdom can make a servant to become a master over the children of his master and even share of the inheritance, Prov17:2. A man of understanding avoids strife, he has a calm spirit and his gift brings him before great men.

Proverbs 18:16 “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.”

Joseph’s gift broke open the prison gate and landed him before Pharaoh. It is wisdom and understanding that can take a man to the seat of destiny fulfillment. On your tongue is life and on the same tongue is death, both are good and profitable to the soul. Understanding the time and season of releasing these powers is known as wisdom.

Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Proverbs19-21. Keep the fire burning and alive.
