Bible In One Year-Day 312 (Saturday, November 08, 2014)
Commentary: Acts5-8. It is the most blessed thing to have Jesus in you as His Spirit. He creates the thirst for God and gives strength and grace to do the extraordinary. The Apostles’ lives could not be quantified because of the Spirit of Jesus in them. Their acts beat the imagination of the people, even the learned.
Acts 4:13 “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.”
Further reading into chapter 4 revealed that their prayer was not ordinary; it commanded heavenly authority which broke earthly stronghold (powers of the land).
Acts 4:31 “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.”
In chapter5 they could not be deceived and the prison could not hold or stop them. Their lives followed heavenly order, thereby rendering earthly authorities irrelevant in carrying out the work of the creator.
Acts 5:19-20 “But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.”
In the same chapter, they made the authority know that they have a higher authority to obey. They became fearless.
Acts 5:29 “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”
Their speeches were with unusual power, piercing the hearts and ushering light into the hearts of men; quite irresistible.
Acts 6:10 “And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spoke.”
They could not compromise their secret altar of prayer which was the power behind the open preaching, Acts6:4; this is in line with what Jesus taught them.
Matthew 6:6 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.”
The spirit and life in the word of God were released and the disciples multiplied. They receive angelic direction and persecutions became advantageous to them.
Acts 8:26 “And the angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goeth down from Jerusalem to Gaza, which is desert.”
Chapter 6 made us to know that there is no way we could understand the scripture without the Spirit of Christ in us.
Acts 8:29-31 “Then the Spirit said to Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.”
The Spirit of Jesus in Philip connected his counselee and that same Spirit taught him. Without experiencing the other side of Jesus, you cannot witness Him by His Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that could convincingly introduce Jesus to people. Whenever we read the Bible, we must be in the spirit and the Spirit of Christ will lead us into the center of God’s thought.
Beloved, the other side of Jesus in us is heavenly experience. The people wanted to kill the Spirit but they could not. Gamaliel advocated for them and make the people know that it would be a battle against God if they tried to kill the Apostles because of the Spirit of Christ in them.
Jeremiah said he wanted to give up but His word has become burning spirit in His bones. The other side of Jesus is Kingdom on earth and this is what we ought to seek.
Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Jesus is the WORD and His Spirit is in His Word; both light and life are in the Word. This is the other side of Jesus; the WORD.
Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Acts9-12. Keep the fire of burning and alive.
