Bible In One Year-Day 206 (Friday, July 25, 2014)
Commentary: Eccl7-9. The scripture is full of life and wisdom. Anyone who wants to gain from the Bible should drop his or her own logic and take the Bible as the words are written and let the Holy Spirit do the interpretation for you to do the adaptation. These chapters talk about the beginning and the ending of an event with emphasis on the end of it. The Bible made us to understand that the ending is better marked than the beginning; the end reflects the genuineness of what you have done. I could imagine the scripture saying that it is better to go to where there is mourning of a life that died than to go to where there is celebration. The truth is that where they mourn ministers to the living better than where there is feasting.
Ecclesiastes 7:1-2 “A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth. It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.”
This gives a clear interpretation of Psalm90:12.
Psalms 90:12 “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
Samson was celebrated at his birth but he was a shame at his death; there is wisdom for us at his death than we could imagine at his birth. The death of Samson thought us how to stay clear of the ‘Delilahs’ hunting for our hair (glory and virtue). Samson died with his enemies and therefore had not any testimony to share. King Ahab was celebrated at his coronation but his death was a shame; the lesson is that a wrong choice of a spouse could lead to untimely death. The first official duty of King Solomon gave him fame but at his death, he became the most foolish man in the Bible. His life was contrary to his words and his reasoning was messed up by strange women. Solomon was so endowed with great spiritual treasure that there was none before or after him in that area of endowment. Unfortunately, sin broke the hedge of divine protection around him. Hear what he had so stay:
Ecclesiastes 7:26 “And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.”
Not only was his life messed up, his works were destroyed also and anointing dried up. In all the three examples, we could see how unequalled strength was destroyed by unyielding and evil domineering influence.
Every gift you have must be cherished in the fear of God and not in self accomplishment. Undue confidence in self accomplishment could lead to self destruction and ignorance of the source of accomplishment is death. In many cases a lot wants peoples’ approval. And if they are not commended the way they prefer, they become so sad and feel berated. This also is vanity and loss of focus. No one is infallible, beloved.
1 Corinthians 10:12 “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”
This is the more reason why we should not hand over spiritual things to novices and the inexperienced.
1 Timothy 3:6-7 “Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the demon. Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the demon.”
Engaging novices in spiritual assignments is exposing them to demonic attacks. It is not enough to go through all available Bible schools and be trained in the word, but to experience the dealing of the Spirit of God; this impacts life more than acquiring knowledge.
Ecclesiastes 7:12 “For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.”
In the dealing of the Holy Spirit, you will be TRAINED, TRIED and TESTED. Perfect wisdom is given only by the Holy Spirit, Isaiah11:2. The evidence is purity of conscience and singleness of the tongue.
1 Timothy 3:8-10 “Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. And let these also first be proved (i.e. TESTED); then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.”
All our readings of the scripture are about the beginning and the ending of the lives of people. The only person without the beginning and the ending is JESUS.
Revelation 1:8 “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”
In Him everything starts and ends in Him. Either love, hatred or envy, death will end it and all will be judged;
Ecclesiastes 9:5-7 “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion forever in any thing that is done under the sun”
To make heaven is not a joint venture, beloved. However, to make hell could be a joint venture. Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Ecclesiastes10-12. Keep the fire burning and alive.
Ecclesiastes 8:11-13 “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.”
