Bible In One Year-Day 196 (Tuesday, July 15, 2014)
Commentary: Proverbs7-9. The message here in chapter7 is against the spirit of seduction. Seduction has its hook in the eyes and bait in the mouth. Whoever yields to seduction has gone astray into untimely death.
Proverbs 7:21-23 “With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.”
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines seduction as;
- to persuade to disobedience or disloyalty
- to lead astray usually by persuasion or false promises
- to carry out the physical seduction of : entice to sexual intercourse
- Attract
All these definitions summarily work on the heart through the eyes and the ears. The seducer takes advantage of the seduced weaknesses or ignorance. If seduction is by attraction, it means the beauty of that thing is talking to you and if you eagerly desire it, then lust is playing a role. If you do not control it, lust and seduction could easily marry; this is not love but evil union;
Proverbs 6:25 “Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.”
If initially, you do not lust after it but you allow yourself to stay around it for some time, you could eventually be seduced. Mostly, because you have been around for sometimes, she tries to work on your heart through fasle kindness by first searching out your greatest need at that time, and then she changes to appear as if it could meet your need. For instance, if a man does not find love at home, if the seducer realizes that with her crafty heart, she would offer the man a kiss when he needs love and by this, the heart of the man is won, Prov7:10-18.
Another form of seduction is to persuade into compromising, i.e. a little bit of truth and little bit of falsehood (trying to be godly through deception). Christians are mostly victims of this type; they always say that they could ask for forgiveness afterwards. Such are lured into disobedience to God’s word.
Hebrews 10:26 “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,”
There is no forgiveness of sin for this type of sin, all you need is deliverance. There are some sinful actions that will not be forgiven without deliverance.
There is another type of seduction which is highly demonic, it is called Hypnosis. This involves the use of a demonic power to penetrate and manipulate the heart of the victim. The victim will be falling in love gradually even if the seducer isn’t around because a spirit has been introduced in the soul of the victim. Such will be having dreams of the hypnotizer and conclude that God is revealing true love through dreams; you are under oppression if you find yourself in this situation. Mostly, there is no counsel that could work because the spirit is already introduced in you; you need deliverance from that evil government. The hypnosis could be actuated by mere winking of the eyes, exposing some seductive parts of the body, or just some touches etc. unfortunately, they go for the strong ones, get their weaknesses and act in that direction.
Proverbs 7:25-27 “Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.”
This is the situation of many ministers of God and strong believers who have gone astray. Wisdom requires that we seek for help as soon as we notice this. Joseph almost fell into the seductive approach of Potiphar’s wife but because he knew how to flee, he escaped from her. Otherwise, he would have been forgotten and his precious life destroyed. He knew he could not stand the power of seduction if he stayed a little longer, he then ran off naked. If you allow pride to take over, death is at the door. If a man does not have the wisdom to flee from this problem, he is trading off his own soul. Wisdom is very important in dealing with seduction; YOU NEED IT!
Proverbs 8:34-36 “Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.”
Anything acquired in an improper path has some iota of seduction in it and the end of it may be bitter;
Proverbs 9:17-18 “Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.”
Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Proverbs10-12. Keep the fire burning and alive.
