Bible In One Year-Day 177 (Thursday, June 26, 2014)
Commentary: Lamentation4-5. Judah, who used to be admired and respected among nations found herself in an unfortunate condition just like a queen becoming a slave. Imagine the pre-state of Judah according to the questions in the this verse;
Lamentations 2:15 “All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?”
The spirit and the valor the Israelites had while entering the Promised Land was so admirable and full of glory. But she got herself involved in another thing that changed her state to the point that she became a ridicule to the enemy and a shame to God; a queen became a slave with hard work.
Lamentations 1:3 “Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude(under affliction and hard servitude, NKJV): she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.”
Her sin and neglect of God led her into unfortunate captivity. The Bible made a statement against her which is worth considering;
Lamentations 1:9 “… she remembereth not her last end; therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter. O LORD, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified himself.”
Here is the NKJV interpretation of the above;
“… she did not consider her destiny; Therefore, her collapse was awesome; she had no comforter. “O Lord, behold my affliction, For the enemy is exalted””
When a man neglects or refuses to consider destiny, the first thing that happens is a broken relationship with God. The consequence of such is that the enemy is exalted because the enemy’s mission is to kill and destroy destinies.
There are two remarkably beautiful physical places in the Bible; the Garden of Eden and the nation of Judah. These two places were prepared for and occupied by the people of God. Unfortunately, sin drove these occupants out of the places and the beauties of the places faded away. A man’s life could only be beautified by the glory of God. But if the same God is neglected and ignored, His glory leaves with Him. When one forgets God the soul of such is removed far from peace and real prosperity is out rightly forgotten.
Isaiah 48:18 “O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:”
Unfortunately, the spiritual leaders were attributed as major part of the problems of the Judeans because they prophesied lies and saw false visions;
Lamentations 2:14 “Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity, to turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of banishment.”
Lamentations 4:13 “For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,”
When those who are supposed to correct and/or make things right are in the acts of sins and iniquities, sanity will be lost, respect for them will not be there again and many things will go wrong.
Lamentations 4:16 “The anger of the LORD hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.”
Sugar-coated messages are now prevalent and the society is becoming decadent at an uncontrollable rate. Things and issues that seem shameful and due for rebukes are the garments of honor while the perpetrators are heroes or role models. More laws are being promulgated to give right to wrong doings. The pulpit has become the platform lead people to sin contrary to God’s law; same-sex marriage is preached on God’s pulpit in a convincing manner, satanic wisdom. Many consider their ways and not their destinies. The Lord warned the Judeans by the mouth of Jeremiah before their woes and Jeremiah remarked it in his lamentation;
Lamentations 3:40 “Let us search and try (examine) our ways, and turn again to the LORD.”
Sin rips off ones glory and removes one from the place of peace. The signboard of sin leads into captivity. Know this about our God;
Lamentations 3:33 “For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.”
This is very true. It is the work of our hand that determines the next level or state. No matter how glorious a destiny, ministry, calling or whatever you could think about is, once compromise is made to sin, the beauty is affected. The Judeans were in serious unpleasant state that they desired the old ways;
Lamentations 5:19-21 “Thou, O LORD, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.”
Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Ezra1-3. Keep the fire burning and alive.
