BATTLE BETWEEN PURPOSE AND BIRTHRIGHT

Bible In One Year-Day 14 (January 14, 2014)

Commenting on Genesis25-27, we read about two important issues; BATTLE IN THE WOMB and FOUNTAIN OF SHEBA. After the death of Abraham, Isaac started his life. The Lord introduced Himself to Isaac as the “GOD OF ABRAHAM”.

Genesis 26:24 “And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.”

God, simply, made him to understand that what He agreed and purposed for Abraham was what He wanted to do through him. When God introduces Himself to you with a particular name, then, that is what He wants to do through you. And He always seal it up with “Fear not, I will be with you” The blessing of Abraham was transferred to Isaac;

Genesis 25:11 “And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi.”

With all the blessings, he was not satisfied with his life taking the pattern of his parents; BARRENNESS. He decided to go for a retreat and the Lord approved his request;

Genesis 25:21 “And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.”

The yoke of barrenness was broken through prayers. Prayer is the key to all marital plights. When the enemy notices a trait of God’s purpose in a marriage, he will attack the marriage in a big way; but there is hope if the couples realize that it is the work of the enemy.

Psalms 112:4 “Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.”

The Lord answered Isaac and the wife conceived. Unfortunately, two nations were at war in her, thereby giving her discomfort;

Genesis 25:23 “And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.”

The BATTLE IN THE WOMB was a battle between PURPOSE and BIRTHRIGHT. However, PURPOSE is always victorious, though, through trials and troubles. There is nothing wrong with purpose and birthright staying together, if only both realizes there calling. Jacob, in a tricky, manner collected a birthright which he never enjoyed himself; that was an error on his part which was corrected in Christ. Christians have purpose and birthright in Christ;

Romans 8:17 “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”

We don’t need to be crooked any longer to grab what is ours.

Isaac dwelt in Gerar by God’s instruction, Gen26:2-5. Isaac sowed in the word of God and his status changed to the point that the citizens of that country were afraid of him;

Genesis 26:12-13 “Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:”

The word of God not only changed his status, it also opened various fountains for him; Esek, Sitnah, Rehoboth and Sheba. Isaac carried an inheritance in his life that was a key to opening of fountains. Out of all the fountains, the fountain of Shebah became a city;

Genesis 26:33 “And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beersheba unto this day.”

This is the fountain that satisfies. It brings increase and settlement. When this fountain opens in your life, you shall become PRAISE to the glory of the Lord. it is a fountain that people will want to perch with. Other fountains brought about rivalry, envy and contentions, but that of Shebah was a resting place. You shall enter into God’s rest in the name of Jesus.

Hebrews 4:3 “For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.”

God’s rest is a place of no contention but admiration; a place of peace and solace; a place of increase and expansion. It is the CENTER OF YOUR ASSIGNMENT. God will lead you there, in the name of Jesus, this year. However, whoever wants to be at the center of God’s assignment or ministry must have a forgiving heart and a heart on fire of LOVE. It was after Isaac had forgiven his adversaries who came of apologize for past deeds that the news of the fountain of Shebah came.

Genesis 26:29-32 “That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the LORD. And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink. And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace. And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water.” I pray that you shall find water in your well this year in the name of Jesus Christ.

A loving heart and a contrite spirit are useful instrument in God’s hand and for His glory. May the Lord grant you this grace in the name of Jesus. Our reading for today is Genesis28-30. Keep the fire burning and alive on the altar of LOVE.
