Bible In One Year-Day 308 (Monday, November 4, 2013)
Commentary: John9-12. The sin of Satan took its root in his ambition to take the place of God or be equal with Him. Men, likewise, always want to take the position of God. God is the only Judge and whoever judges and condemns is one of those taking the place of God.
John 9:1-2 “And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?”
This man was born blind and had never seen light. All his life, he could only use other senses apart from sight. When Jesus saw Him, the disciples asked what type of sin could be responsible for his predicament. But Jesus made them realize that God was aware of the state of the man and had prepared him for His glory.
We need to know that Jesus, the WORD, was with God in the beginning and was there in the deliberation to create man in God’s image.
Since Jesus said that the blindness of this man was to glorify God, then it must have been that God did not give the man eyes to see before allowing him to come this earth; God deferred the creation of this part till Jesus walked on earth. We were made out of clay. Jesus therefore completed the creation of the man. This was to let His disciples know that He was part of the deliberation to create man and He had the power to create new parts. Remember what the scripture tells us.
John 1:10 “He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.”
Colossians 1:16 “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:”
After Jesus completed the creation of this man, people could not recogniae him again. To them, the man was a sinner and did not deserve a new life. They had started judging the man. they did not stay there, but to call Jesus a sinner. But this man had been adequately convinced by the new life had that a sinner could have ushered him into light.
John 9:24-25 “Then again called they the man that was blind, and said to him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.”
Because the man held unto his testimony, Jesus appeared to him to properly introduce Himself.
John 9:35-38 “Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said to him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? And Jesus said to him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped him.”
There are two lessons we could learn from this chapter.
- The healing, deliverance, breakthrough, etc we receive in His name is for the salvation of our soul. this blind man worshiped Jesus when he found the giver of life. Many run from God’s presence when they are relieved of their problems. Some take to another character entirely different from what they use to be. If we cut off from the giver of life, there will be no supply of life and light and this is what the devil takes advantage of to deal more horribly with us. When a man is cut off from life, he would definitely fulfill the conditions that would make Satan stage a come back in a harder way. John 5:14 “Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come to thee.”
- The second lesson is that nothing of us makes healing, deliverance, breakthrough or any other spiritual breakthrough happen but Jesus. John 15:5 “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” Just as He anointed the eyes of this man with the mixture of His spit and clay and sent him to the pool of Siloam, so He anoints those who are due for miracles and send them to appropriate men of God to wash with the word of God and prayers. Men of God need not struggle for membership but call on God to make them contact those He has sent him to. Those who run around the world seeking for where they could preach for few dollars are far from true revelation. But those with the real revelation don’t jump about churches, but God Himself gather people for them. In like manner, brethren should pray for God to direct them to where He has prepared the pool of Siloam for them. In essence, what we the Christians need is to pray for connection that would glorify God and not man.
Testimonies that glorify God are arranged by God and not by any human effort. Such testimonies beat human imagination. It causes confusions in the camp of the enemy.
John 9:32 “Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.”
Such testimony is a defeat on Satan and his cohorts.
Revelation 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives to the death.”
Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is John13-16. Keep the fire of burning and alive.
