Bible In One Year-Day 298 (Friday, October 25, 2013)
Commentary: Isaiah37-40. King Hezekiah went through two difficult times; the threat of Sennacherib, king of Assyria, and the message of death from the Lord. He showed His mightiness to Sennacherib because of his blasphemy.
Isaiah 37:36-38 “Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.”
On the other hand, He showed His faithfulness to Hezekiah as a God that does not despise the prayer of a righteous heart.
Isaiah 38:2-5 “Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying, Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.”
The trials of the righteous are not the same as that of the wicked though it looks alike. That of the righteous always ends well but that of the wicked ends in destruction.
Proverbs 24:16 “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.”
God is watching over men and He knows those who are His.
Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Isaiah41-44. Keep the fire of burning and alive.
