Bible In One Year-Day 276 (Thursday, October 03, 2013)

Commentary: Psalms91-95. Above all things, good or bad, sweet or bitter, God deserves to be praised. This is the message of the Psalmist in Psa92.

Psalms 92:1-2 “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,”

For us to wake up in the morning despite all the troubles of our heart, it is God’s lovingkindness that protected us through the night; a sinner unconscious of the dangers around him. To get back to sleep at night, it is God’s faithfulness that serves as grace that saw us through the dangers of the day. Psalm91 analyses the perils a sinner is exposed to, yet secured. When you looked deeply into his statement in Psa91:7-8, then you should agree with the psalmist that it is good to praise the Lord. He was not better than those he saw ruined which he could see.

Psalms 91:7-8 “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.”

The Psalmist was in an unpleasant and discouraging situation. It was so bad that he could have forsaken going to worship the Lord on a Sabbath day. But because he was a person whose spiritual life had grown to the point of no return, he encouraged himself by declaring this in Psalm92. Many forsake the presence of God on worship days, especially, because of what they are going through. Characters of the scripture went through more horrible moments of life. It is in this they were able to receive the inspiration of the truths we now read. Nothing should take us from His presence; even if it is physical breakdown, you should still be in contact with His presence in the spirit. If you have been praying to enter His presence, you can’t find it in the splendor of life; otherwise, Jesus could have been led into a palace by the Holy Spirit. John the Baptist could have installed his pulpit in a palace. All the prophets that installed their pulpits in the palace of Ahab where Jezebel fed them had their divine appointments terminated.

For as long as you remain in His presence, no matter the troubles of life, your latter days shall be glorious; this is the experience of the psalmist.

Psalms 92:12-15 “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.”

The Palm Tree can survive any weather; harsh or not. And can live years without losing it’s value.

The righteous is he that;

1. Refuses to be harvested out of the presence of God by Satan, even if such is tormented day in day out; remember Job.
2. Remains focused and not distracted by the riches of another; Psa92:6-7.
3. Allows the Holy Spirit to dig deeper into him for the purpose of pruning.
4. Refuses to compromise in the face of temptations; remember Joseph.
5. Disallows crookedness but ensures things are done rightly and lawfully. Psalms 119:128 “Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.”
6. Refuses to be a vessel for the world to influence the body of Christ.
7. Desires more of God.
8. Refuses to go astray in the heart; Psa95:10.
9. Allows God’s instructions to prepare him for the days of adverity; Psa94:12-15.

10. Hates wickedness with perfect hatred.

11. Delights in the law of the Lord; Psalm1:1-3.

12. Does not sit to gossip nor take after the counsel of the ungodly.

13. Constantly seeks God’s kingdom and all that it entails (His will).

14. Hardens not his heart to God’s word and is not rebellious to His instructions.

15. Refuses to deceitfully swear or testify to falsehood.

16. Stands before the Lord in cleanliness of hands and purity of heart.

17. Ever appreciates God’s goodness;

Psalms 140:13 “Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.”

18. Always see good things in whatever trouble he or she is passing through knowing that there is a lesson to learn to the glory of God.

19. Above all, praises the Lord and forsakes not the gathering of brethren; Psa95.

It is the will of God for us to give thanks and praise Him above all things.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Psalms96-100. Keep the fire of burning and alive.
