THE WISE AND THE FOOLISH

Bible In One Year-Day 197 (Tuesday, July 16, 2013)

Commentary: Proverbs10-12. These chapters clearly relay the attributes of the wise and those of the fool. A man is regarded as a fool or the wise only by the fruit of his mouth.

Proverbs 12:18-20 “There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health. The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

Every verse in these chapters shows the path of life and of destruction. We are left to make choice. Where we end up after death is a matter of choice. There is no one who reads and commits the words of wisdom in the book of proverbs into his heart ever remain foolish. Mark you, not only reading but committing into your heart to observed and to do.

Isaiah 1:19 “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

Jesus is our wisdom. When you let His words enter you, you have allowed Him in your heart and if you obey His word with your HEART, you give your life to Him and people see a new life in you and are amazed for the type of wisdom that comes from you. This is because the life you now live is not yours but Christ’s.

John 8:12 Then spoke Jesus again to them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

You could have the whole of the Bible in your head but if not committed into your heart, it remains as ordinary stories and carries no fire or power even if you use it to pray; demons are not moved by this. Jesus is the total package of all you could become in life and all that God desires from you.

1 Corinthians 1:30-31 “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made to us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Proverbs13-15. Keep the fire burning and alive.

Proverbs 12:4 “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

POWER OF SEDUCTION

Bible In One Year-Day 196 (Monday, July 15, 2013)

Commentary: Proverbs7-9. The message here in chapter7 is against the spirit of seduction. Seduction has its hook in the eyes and bait in the mouth. Whoever yields to seduction has gone astray into untimely death.

Proverbs 7:21-23 “With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him. He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines seduction as;

  1.  to persuade to disobedience or disloyalty
  2.  to lead astray usually by persuasion or false promises
  3.  to carry out the physical seduction of : entice to sexual intercourse
  4. Attract

All these definitions summarily work on the heart through the eyes and the ears. The seducer takes advantage of the seduced weaknesses or ignorance. If seduction is by attraction, it means the beauty of that thing is talking to you and if you eagerly desire it, then lust is playing a role. If you do not control it, lust and seduction could easily marry; this is not love but evil union;

Proverbs 6:25 “Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

If initially, you do not lust after it but you allow yourself to stay around it (seduction) for some time, you could eventually be seduced. Mostly, because you have been around for sometimes, she tries to work on your heart by first searching out your greatest need at that time, and then she changes to appear as if it could meet your need. For instance, if a man does not find love at home, if the seducer realizes that with her crafty heart, she would offer the man a kiss when he needs love and by this, the heart of the man is won, Prov7:10-18.

Another form of seduction is to persuade into compromising, i.e. a little bit of truth and little bit of falsehood (trying to be godly through deception). Christians are mostly victims of this type; they always say that they could ask for forgiveness afterwards. Such are lured into disobedience to God’s word.

Hebrews 10:26 “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

There is no forgiveness of sin for this type of sin, all you need is deliverance. There are some sinful actions that will not be forgiven without deliverance.

There is another type of seduction which is highly demonic, it is called Hypnosis. This involves the use of a demonic power to penetrate and manipulate the heart of the victim. The victim will be falling in love gradually even if the seducer isn’t around because a spirit has been introduced in the soul of the victim. Such will be having dreams of the hypnotizer and conclude that God is revealing true love through dreams; you are under oppression if you find yourself in this situation. Mostly, there is no counsel that could work because the spirit is already introduced in you; you need deliverance from that evil government. The hypnosis could be actuated by mere winking of the eyes, exposing some seductive parts of the body, or just some touches etc. unfortunately, they go for the strong ones, get their weaknesses and act in that direction.

Proverbs 7:25-27 “Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths. For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

This is the situation of many ministers of God and strong believers who have gone astray. Wisdom requires that we seek for help as soon as we notice this. Joseph almost fell into the seductive approach of Potiphar’s wife but because he knew how to flee, he escaped from her. Otherwise, he would have been forgotten and his precious life destroyed. He knew he could not stand the power of seduction if he stayed a little longer, he then ran off naked. If you allow pride to take over, death is at the door. If a man does not have the wisdom to flee from this problem, he is trading off his own soul. Wisdom is very important in dealing with seduction; YOU NEED IT!

Proverbs 8:34-36 “Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Anything acquired in an improper path has some iota of seduction in it and the end of it may be bitter;

Proverbs 9:17-18 “Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Proverbs10-12. Keep the fire burning and alive.

GOING ASTRAY

Bible In One Year-Day 195 (Sunday, July 14, 2013)

Commentary: Proverbs4-6. The relationship between God and us is likened to that between a father and the son. This is what chapter 4 emphasized. But it made us to understand that a father’s words and instruction must be in the heart, i.e. mixed up with the heart which in essence means the soul.

Proverbs 4:3-4 “For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

The problem before now was that people believed that obeying the law was the basis of holiness. They disregarded retaining the word in the heart as the most important; observing and doing the word is what gives life. That was why that ruler in Luke 18:18 called Jesus “good Master” without knowing the meaning of being good. His believe was that since he was carrying out the Ten Commandments, he was good but the love (nature) of God was not in his heart. He lacked understanding. Not until the word of God finds a place in the heart there can’t be understanding.

Psalms 119:130 “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Only Jesus could expound the scripture in our hearts;

Luke 24:44-45 “And he said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

The Holy Spirit has been given to us to shed the light of the scriptures in our hearts. Therefore, we need to embrace His works in our lives. This is the only way we could be made holy unto the Lord. If we keep God’s word away from our heart, we are bound to go astray;

Proverbs 5:21-23 “For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.  His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Proverbs7-9. Keep the fire burning and alive.

WISDOM: EVIDENCE OF GOD’S BREATHE

Bible In One Year-Day 194 (Saturday, July 13, 2013)

Commentary: Proverbs1-3. To live a godly life in an ungodly world and to build strong character and morale in a depreciating, decadent and negatively influencing world, the book of proverbs must be read with the heart. It spans through all aspects of life and meets the need of all human age, gender and race. The flag in this book is WISDOM and the major instrument was King Solomon. Wisdom isn’t a talent but a gift of the Spirit of God. Solomon lacked it before he encountered God. The evidence of his encounter with God was WISDOM. Wisdom is a spiritual thing and comes from eternity. It represents God’s judgment and glory. Anyone who genuinely meets the Lord must carry something along as he or she leaves His presence that would stand as an evidence of that genuine encounter. The spiritual gifts in the New Testament were also found in the Old Testament except for the gift of tongues. That marks the evidence of God’s nature in us. Demons speak in tongues as experienced on deliverance ground. The difference is that it is to confuse and deceive while that which is from the Holy Spirit caries power and fire. The one by demon entertains but that from God shakes the kingdom of darkness to the root and turns the believer to unquenchable flames of fire;

Acts 2:3-4 “And there appeared to them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The Holy Spirit gives gifts as He wills. His presence in Solomon was in the form of wisdom. You need that gift which will make you relevant in life. To have such gift, you must love the Lord with the whole of your heart. To love the Lord is to keep His commandment and do His will without compromise; this is sometimes referred to as the fear of the Lord.

Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Solomon loved the Lord and did not want to offend Him; he carried the fear of God in his heart into the dream. Those who love Him are easily transformed from within.

Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

One of the most profound demonstrations of wisdom is refusal to yield to sinners’ influences, i.e. resisting peer pressure;

Proverbs 1:10-15 “My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. … My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

Wisdom starts with a seed and grows gradually. You could find it grow only in those who love knowledge and choose the fear of God. There is a sound wisdom and another unsound wisdom. Sound wisdom is found in the mouth of the upright, but the unsound looks sound; it is not, rather, it flatters. And it is only those whose hearts are perverted that fall prey of it. Wisdom delivers from such mouths.

Proverbs 2:16-19 “To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; … None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.”

Wisdom discerns and judges rightly. To have wisdom is to keep biblical laws and principles; this gives life and peace.

Proverbs 3:1-2 “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

Wisdom is to TRUST in God with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, Prov3:5-8. Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Wisdom is to worship the Lord with your possessions. It is to embrace the Lord’s correction. We need to seek wisdom diligently.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Proverbs4-6. Keep the fire burning and alive.

CONSIDER YOUR WAYS

Bible In One Year-Day 193 (Friday, July 12, 2013)

Commentary: Malachi1-4. Prophet Malachi was one of the prophets in the days of Nehemiah. In his time, the Temple had been rebuilt but run by promiscuous, deceitful, wicked and corrupt power-brokers, i.e. the priests and the Levites. They led the people more into sin and worshipping God was short of the requirements.

Malachi 2:8 “But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.

Malachi functioned as a Pastor, Prophet and a theologian to the people. His messages were directed at the atrocities within the people. They dishonored God with defiled sacrifices on the altar;

Malachi 1:13 “Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.

It was so bad that the word of God was not important to the people; they lived their own lives. They disregarded marriage institution and abhors God’s position in their social living.

Malachi 2:16 “For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away (divorce): for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

Many things went wrong which were hurting to God. The proud was being praised and the wicked went free with their atrocities. The righteous was being silenced. A lot gave up serving the Lord because of evil counsel and compromised the righteous path;

Malachi 3:14-15 “Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts? And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.

The book of remembrance is only for those who remain steadfast in the way of the cross, Malachi3:16-18. There is reward for those who remain steadfast in the fear of the Lord;

Malachi 4:2-3 “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.

Unfortunately, the atrocities in the days of Malachi are prevalent now. Sorcerers, adulterers, perjurers, exploiters and haters have taken over the pulpits and are putting on collars (Mal3:5). The people are being led astray through wrong counsels and the kingdom suffers righteous living. Malachi ended his message with the prediction of an Elijah which Jesus confirmed in John The Baptist.

Malachi 4:5 “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

For more than 400 years, God kept silent until John the Baptist appeared to fulfill the prophecy of Prophet Malachi.

Matthew 11:13-15 “For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive it, this is Elijah who was to come. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

The book of Malachi is enough as a sound warning for us to check and consider our ways. The manner of worship today is becoming insincere and full of falsehood. It is so bad that ethical standard of God’s covenant is becoming alien to worshippers. The worship is as the flesh leads and not as the Spirit leads even if we say “the Holy Spirit says …” The move of the flesh is now the move of the Spirit. Sincere and genuine biblical counsels and standards are being sidetracked for the insincere. Politicians are the advisers of the collared and the collared leads the people into more captivity. We need to pray for revival.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Proverbs1-3. Keep the fire burning and alive.
