KNOWING AND EXPERIENCING GOD

Bible In One Year-Day 231 (Monday, August 19, 2013)

Commentary: Hosea6-10. Something stood clear in the problems of the nations Judah and Israel; lack of knowledge.

Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Knowing God is absolutely important in walking with Him. It goes beyond what we acquire in Bible colleges where knowledge of other peoples’ views is acquired. Those are mere information and facts and one could be a master of it but still lack the knowledge of who God is. The experience of God is entrenched in the deep revelation of Him. Taking Apostle Paul for example; he never got his gospel or teachings from any man but from the revelation of the Lord Jesus, i.e. he experienced Jesus.

Galatians 1:11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

A sight of Jesus for five minutes is enough for life ministry. Only Jesus can give you the revelation we are talking of as He wills; not even your prayer and fasting.

Luke 10:22 “All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

Knowing God is in receiving revelation of Him. Lack of knowledge of God makes one to follow human precepts; rules and laws which may eventually lead into strange doctrines, rituals and sacrifices. This was what Ephraim did and God was angry with him.

Hosea 4:17 “Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.

Hosea 5:11 “Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment (by human precepts).

Their faith in the Lord never lasted because it had no base in the word of GOD. God lamented on the instability of Ephraim when it comes to faithfulness, steadfastness and truth.

Hosea 6:4 “O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.

Children of God go into captivity and perish just because they do not know the God they have. If a man does not know God, all his deeds are never to that God but to flesh and another spirit.

Hosea 5:4 “They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God: for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they have not known the LORD.

We need to know the Lord not in the flesh but in the spirit by His Spirit. Knowing God by His Spirit is to have intimate experience of His glory, personality and being. Evidence of knowing Him is revealed in you and your actions and in the speech that comes out of you; full of power.

Acts 4:33 “And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

When you receive this awesome revelation, God will subject you into a path of “no comfort” which we tag “suffering”. This is to grind the received revelation into you until you become one with it so that when people see you, they receive the richness of Christ (the revelation) through your attitude or character. Joseph received the revelation, he went into that path, and he graduated in the palace of Pharaoh. Apostle Paul also went through that path, he cried to God to relieve him, but the answer was “My grace is sufficient for you” You cannot escape a particular course in this path and that course or subject is called PERSECUTION. If you don’t know how to manage persecution, you cannot manage praise. Are you living what you preach or proclaim? Consider your ways.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Hosea11-14. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

THERE IS A PURPOSE FOR IT

Bible In One Year-Day 230 (Sunday, August 18, 2013)

Commentary: Hosea1-5. The meaning of Hosea is “Salvation”. The prophet had about 50years of prophetic ministry in the land of Israel, the northern part of the kingdom. God started with him by giving directives regarding his marital life. God’s connection to his spouse seemed to make no sense to an ordinary man, but God is a God of purpose. His steps to achieving a purpose might not be within human reasoning; however, a submissive heart would not ask questions because such knows that God’s purpose supersedes every other agenda.

Isaiah 55:8-11 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Looking into his marriage, we could see the purpose of God being uncovered as children were being born; each child was a definition of God’s purpose. The main purpose for God to use his marital life as an illustration was to demonstrate divine love of God for His people. The attitude of Hosea’s wife was likened to what the Lord’s people are actually doing against divinity. But God’s mercy and loving-kindness overwhelmed his judgment.

Hosea 3:1 “Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.

The ministry of Hosea tells us more of how to find comfort in God’s plan even if it seems illogical to us. That ministry also makes us to realize that God’s love is available for a repentant heart. We could see, also, that marriage isn’t made up of two perfect people but between two imperfect people and a perfect God. You may have a horrible past, from what we have read, you could still find comfort in God’s love and mercy, which is Jesus Christ.

Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Jesus has given us the ministry of reconciliation. The problems in marriages should draw us closer to God if God was there in the beginning of it. Spouses should stand as help to one another in times of need as Hosea stood to listen to God’s instruction concerning her wife’s profanity and promiscuity. God is ready to reconcile us to Himself at all times.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19 “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not imputing their trespasses to them; and hath committed to us the word of reconciliation.

Reconciliation entails forgiveness and restoration. This is the ministry of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Hosea6-10. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

KEEPING THE SECRET OF THE LORD

Bible In One Year-Day 228 (Friday, August 16, 2013)

Commentary: Daniel7-9. Daniel saw a troubling vision in the dream. In the dream, he was troubled and decided to ask questions. He got a good angelic response in the dream; our God is not an author of confusion. The lesson remains that Daniel kept the dream within himself even though he was troubled.

Daniel 7:28 “Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.

How much of secrets could you keep for the Lord? The spirit of Daniel is that spirit that talks only when God talks and this is why the bible called the spirit “an excellent spirit”. Compared with Joseph, Daniel exhibited great deal of maturity in handling divine information. Many cannot do this and thus are finding it difficult to receive deep revelations in the dream. It is good for us to be prophets, but if the mouth is loose, such becomes a parrot. Prophets talk only when God ask them to talk and not when they want to show that they are prophets of God. All these are based on the fear of the Lord.

Psalms 25:14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Daniel10-12. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

DEALING WITH HIDDEN PRIDE

Bible In One Year-Day 227 (Thursday, August 15, 2013)

Commentary: Daniel4-6. Let’s start from the verses as follows;

Daniel 4:25-26 … till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. … thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

These extracts actually points deep things which should be part of our knowledge of God; God rules over the kingdoms of the world and we MUST know that. The king was highly exalted by God but lacked the knowledge of the truth behind his elevation. God had to make him know it. The manner was that he would go through some moments of rejection (i.e. driven away from human society) and to be accepted only by wild animals; eating, sleeping amongst and living with them. This would linger until he learned that his kingdom was because heaven backed him up and not his effort (“after that thou shalt have known …”). If anyone could prayerfully read Nebuchadnezzar’s predicament, such will fear God beyond mere hearing of the messages of preachers. Pride had taken over his heart which became sin to him. Daniel interpreted God’s warning or intentions (dreams) to him and gave the king advice on what to do just to help him;

Daniel 4:27 “Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

After this scenario, the king still walked about for a year without changing his ways; what a gracious God we have. Unfortunately, God’s judgment fell upon him and his heart became that of a beast suitable to adapt to a new life with the animals.

Daniel 5:20 “But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

Eventually he gave God His due respect.

Daniel 4:37 “Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

The first thing that came into him was that pride must be dealt with.

Unfortunately, his son, King Belshazzar, also had a proud heart despite his knowledge of what his father went through in the hand of God.

Daniel 5:22 “And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

He took all the vessels in the house of God and used them to praise idols; an insult on God. The judgment of God was written on the wall with the finger of God against him and that very night it was executed.

Daniel 5:30 “In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

Pride is a great sin before the Lord. It becomes more dangerous if it is hidden, i.e. not known to you. Such manifests at the peak of breakthroughs or great accomplishments. People with pride seek for recognition among folks; this actually leads to people lying about statuses, positions and accomplishments. Pride brings rivalry and leads into unholy competitions. It is the power behind bitterness, rancor, hatred and unnecessary strife. It sponsors self-promotion and despises others making the person feel more important than others. It could manifest at any level of life. We need to recognize it and quickly deal with it before it destroys us. God cannot stay with anyone with pride as a garment.

Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Daniel7-9. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

GOD OF DANIEL IS THE GOD OF THE PROPHETS

Bible In One Year-Day 226 (Wednesday, August 14, 2013)

Commentary: Daniel1-3. It is good for us to study the lives of the prophets because many things will be revealed to us through their various experiences. As we discussed in our last reading, the book of Ezekiel, there is difference between a priest and a prophet/Apostle. A priest will definitely have a mentor to teach and lead him. The priest teaches the law and feeds the flock, but the prophet has the reality of what is in God’s presence in real-time. The prophet might have a mentor to guide in moral upbringing but not in interaction with God. The Elders uses experience to advice.

Ezekiel 7:26 “Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumour shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients.

As for the prophet, it is possible to have a predecessor, but not necessary; he is under direct supervision of God. However, he could be advised by another person on particular issues, the mentorship is of the Lord. A priest could be trained to be a priest but to be a prophet is absolutely of the Lord and God does not need the approval of any person to call or ordain as a prophet. Elijah received instruction from God concerning Elisha, Moses also received concerning Joshua. God takes the prophet through His own school to teach him specific things and this is why their lives are misunderstood by people. They could act as both a priest and, of course, a prophet. The office is the highest responsibility in God’s economy. If you decide to get too close to them, you could be in trouble if you are not ready to totally yield to their training and tolerate their shortcomings. The closer you are to them the more you see of them that they have flesh and if you talk about their shortcomings, you are bargaining for problems; remember Moses and his siblings (Number12).

1 Chronicles 16:22 “Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.”

On the other hand, staying too far from them could lead into serious errors.

Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

To discipline a prophet is not in the hand of any man but God’s.

Romans 8:33 “Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.

God, Himself, works to pattern His prophets along with what He desires.

1 Samuel 2:35 “And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

A prophet does according to God’s heart and mind and not by information from people. The life of Ezekiel was a reflection of subservient prophet who acted as a fool in all the visions. Daniel is another life we have to learn from; a praying prophet. His life fulfilled the word of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Matthew 6:6 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.

Daniel was carried into exile as a young man of 16 years and came of age in Babylon. The king who held them in exile wanted to acculturate them through delicacies and change of name. He wanted to breed them to suit his own purpose. This was good but, in reality, it was defilement; good foods, sometimes, might not be godly. He and his friends started their walk with God by refusing to defile their bodies, the temple of the Holy Spirit. He took his eyes away from the things of the world but delighted in his God to please him. God, being a faithful God, identified with their determination and upgraded their brains beyond human imagination.

Daniel 1:17 “As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.”

This is a lesson for us all; if you don’t know who you are, somebody will make you what he wanted you to be. You need to discover your destiny; otherwise, someone else will create another destiny for you. Though Daniel was in exile, he never allowed his destiny to be exiled. Whatever hardship you are going through, don’t lose focus of destiny; it is to sandpaper you to smoothness and to adorable status.

Daniel 1:19 “And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

Many people’s true nature, life and character had been altered through unholy acculturation and, therefore, not fit for God’s use. Some, through peer pressures or environmental influences, had provided the door for the enemy to so tare while spiritually sleeping. The fasting they initially rejected is now a must before anything positive can happen in their lives.

When it was time for these children to be promoted, those who matter before the king began to fail.

Daniel 2:2 “Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.

God created a problem that rendered these sets of people irrelevant to the king. To them, no man on earth could solve the problem; they had been defiled, changed from their spiritually useful state and could not interpret spiritual things anymore. They were under the supervision of the ruling demon of that nation. Hear what they concluded;

Daniel 2:10-11 “The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

Surely there is a God whose dwelling is not with the flesh; that is the God of Daniel. The king’s wise men were put to death and they were looking for Daniel and his friends to kill.

Daniel 2:13 “And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

This was not a problem to them because they were serving the God whose dwelling was not with the flesh. They had a serious night vigil to that God and He answered them.

Daniel 2:19 “Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

You could only remain in your problems if you refuse to pray yourself out of it. Problems cannot stop your testimony if you know how to prayerfully deal with it with a pure heart. Daniel, with this confidence, preached God to the pagan king after receiving the disturbing revelation.

Daniel 2:28 “But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;

When the king heard this and the message, he accepted that God whose dwelling is not with the flesh and promoted Daniel and companions with gifts. The gift you receive must be given to you in heaven; otherwise, it becomes a snare. In Daniel’s case, he had first received a spiritual gift from heaven which called for gifts from the king.

Daniel 2:48 “Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

When God promotes you, kings had no option but to effect it. The revelation given by God can only be interpreted by the Spirit of God; interpretation is not within human logic or wisdom. The God of Daniel is the God of the Prophets.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Daniel4-6. Keep the fire of burning and alive.
