GOOD AND FAITHFULL SERVANT

Bible In One Year-Day 225 (Tuesday, August 13, 2013)

Commentary: Ezekiel46-48. Seeing the glory of God is the greatest blessing a genuine man of God could ever claim to have.

Psalms 24:5 “He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

This glory brings two basic things to the fortunate man; blessing and God’s righteousness. However, to be the fortunate man to experience this grace, you must first take your eyes away from the things of this world. They are vanities. Anything that rubs us of our focus is vanity. The enemy is very clever. He could allow a person to rise according to his heart desire but could make the person focus on the blessing instead of the God who blessed him. This could lead to destruction. King Saul was guilty of this; he lost his place before the Lord. What I am saying in essence is that people, after being blessed, often wants to be the master of the blessing thereby putting God as secondary. They start receiving the praise of man and seeking for recognitions.

John 13:16 “Verily, verily, I say to you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

Many want to be the best preacher in the world. Some prefer to have the largest congregation in the world, while some wants to build the biggest cathedral in the world. They could have these things, but it is a wrong notion before the Lord. A genuine prophet will never seek for such ambition; rather, he wants to serve the Lord as it is pleasing to Him and not as it is pleasing to the man of God. Therefore, a prophet is a servant not desiring his own praise but God glorified.

Jeremiah 9:24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.”

Ezekiel was such a prophet who was enrolled in the school of the Holy Spirit. His knowledge was not relevant when God spoke. He submitted himself to the all knowing God.

Ezekiel 37:3 “And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.

He did not prove to know, rather, he submitted all himself to the teaching of God. A servant does not take decision without asking for the opinion of the master. All that is in the heart of the true servant is to please the master even if he is going to be hurt by people.

Ezekiel 3:25-26 “But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them: And I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: for they are a rebellious house.

A servant has not the mind of his, but the desire of his master is core in his heart. He went through a lot in the hand of the Lord. God made him to lie on his sides for a total of 430 days which he did without complaints. Ezekiel4 is a chapter that tells of what entails in the school of prophets. The life of a pastor or priest is different from the life of a prophet. Pastors feed the flocks with the knowledge acquired and carry out the ceremonial functions in the sanctuary. But the prophet receives raw message from God’s presence and delivers ‘as is’, revealed or heard. Ezekiel’s life was a clear picture of what a prophet is. To be a prophet is not a matter of position among men but of servitude to the Most High God. To function as prophet, you need a new heart, soul and spirit; the heart to be a faithful servant and the spirit to serve Him faithfully. The secret of the success of the ministry of Ezekiel was that he never spoke out of the imagination of his own heart, but as the Lord says “thus saith the Lord …”

There is a blessing greater than seeing demons in human being; it is having access to His glory and to His secret. Only those who have taken their eyes away from the things of this world (fame, position, money and worldly splendor) could have this grace.

Psalms 24:3-5 “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

God called Moses His servant and was proud of him just because of Moses’ servitude to Him. God went as far as defending Moses when his siblings attacked his personality.

Do you desire to be a servant of God? Then, you must be ready to be changed from within; changed soul, heart and spirit. The life of a prophet is full of troubles, but God’s grace grows them through it. The law around them is holiness and the conclusion of their life is as the book of Ezekiel ends “THE LORD IS THERE”

Remember, beloved, God has not provided a platform for any contest in His vineyard; no rivalry, no best or No 1. God has not given the best ministry or church. These are from men. He is only prepared to welcome the FAITHFUL SERVANT; this is the only one that will enter His joy.

Matthew 25:21 “His lord said to him, Well done thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Daniel1-3. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

HOLINESS WITHIN AND WITHOUT

Bible In One Year-Day 224 (Monday, August 12, 2013)

Commentary: Ezekiel43-45. The glory of the Lord will only manifest in that which He instructed and carried out according to His rules.

Ezekiel 43:1-2 “Afterward he brought me to the gate, even the gate that looketh toward the east: And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory.

The glory of the Lord is His brightness, righteousness, beauty and the extension of His kingdom.

Romans 14:17 “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Nothing on earth could be used to describe it even if any man had been privileged to witness a blink of it, he still cannot fully describe it. It is best experienced than described because that glory will change the person just as it did to Moses.

2 Samuel 22:13 “Through the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled.”

The person who has been to the high mountain of the Lord will definitely carry this grace of His glory.

Psalms 24:3-6 “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

This glory is not for those who seek for the praise of men, self recognition or position; in general, vanity. It is for the humble in heart like Ezekiel. It is a great blessing to receive the privilege to access His presence.

The Holy Spirit, which we desire to come into us, brings in this glory because we are His temple. Before a man becomes born again, the state was like the ruined temple before Zerubabbel led the repair. Man was wholly corrupted and filthy in his own sinful ways. After giving the life to Jesus, the Holy Spirit starts the renewing work just as the revelation given to Ezekiel was a kind of work that needed to be done; things must be put in proper places. The messages and teachings in theological schools are the instruments for this renewal. Growing in this grace makes a man to be available for the glory to fully come in, and without the fullness of His glory, we can’t hear the true voice of God.

Ezekiel 43:4-6 “And the glory of the LORD came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east. So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house. And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house; and the man stood by me.

This happened in the upper chamber as well.

Acts 2:2-4 “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

If you have received Jesus as your savior, don’t stay there but move to the next stage seeking for the renewal of the mind and spirit. The process is by gradual patterning of your life with the word of God; no hatred, prejudice, malice, pride, anger, rage, jealousy, rivalry, bitterness, unforgiving, rancor and strife. Evidence of this work in your life is that His glory fills you and consequently, the voice of God will not be scarce in your life. The number of years as a Christian does not matter, neither the title you are decorated with; what matters is how much you have grown in grace. God will only establish His throne in the heart that has grown in grace (i.e. renewed mind) and not in position.

Ezekiel 43:7 “And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.

Compare with these scriptures;

Psalms 34:18 “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Isaiah 57:15 “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Isaiah 66:2 “For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

Is your life following the law of the temple? Holiness within and around.

Ezekiel 43:12 “This is the law of the house; Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the house.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Ezekiel46-48. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

ONLY BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD

Bible In One Year-Day 223 (Sunday, August 11, 2013)

Commentary: Ezekiel40-42. The plan and landscape of every city or nation is before the Lord. The people living in them are clearly seen by the Lord. All activities are not hidden from Him. Where can we hide from His presence?

Psalms 24:1 A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.”

To have access to this deep revelation, the scripture must be fulfilled; you must get to the mountain top.

Psalms 24:3-4 “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

To get to the mountain top is not by being led by zeal to a physical mountain but by the Spirit of the Lord. The Spirit of the Lord will not lead a wicked heart; the heart must be renewed. He will not lead a filthy hand; the hand must be clean. He will not lead a corrupted soul full of vanity with poisonous mouth; the scripture must be satisfied.

Ezekiel was led by the Spirit of the Lord to the mountain and deep secrets were revealed to him.

Ezekiel 40:2 “In the visions of God brought He me into the land of Israel, and set me upon a very high mountain, by which was as the frame of a city on the south.

Real prophets get there information from the high mountains. They do not need to go to any physical or visible mountain to spend days there, they are always led by the Spirit of God. Evidently we could see the fear of the Lord in Ezekiel; this is the first qualifying factor to have this privilege.

Psalms 25:14 “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

Without the fear of the Lord, one cannot keep the secret of God within. The fear of the Lord is the storage of divine information within. Whatever Ezekiel declared then was just the truth and not a fact (information gotten from literatures or from the mouth of rumor bearers). It has been established in the spirit realm. Ezekiel had the grace to see God’s renewed plan for the Temple. Before any ministry is put in place there must be a vision that establishes it. Having knowledge of the Bible does not mean that a mandate to start another ministry has been given. Ministries that will last must have genuine vision given at a high mountain. And the visioner must be led to the mountain by the Spirit of the Lord, not by zeal to fast 40 days and 40 nights; otherwise, frustration will be the order of the day. Ministries without visions will only follow patterns laid down by men and peace will be scarce in it. When a man is decorated with a position in the ministry without a backing revelation, he would be frustrated and such person could eventually be a problem to that ministry; Aaron was installed as God instructed Moses, not because Aaron was his blood brother. I believe ministries and their cathedrals must be built by vision for the glory of God to come in there. Let us follow VISION and not ZEAL (even if zeal is leading, let it be with knowledge, otherwise it becomes sin).

Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Proverbs 19:2 “Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Ezekiel43-45. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

WHAT IS YOUR CALLING?

Bible In One Year-Day 222 (Saturday, August 10, 2013)

Commentary: Ezekiel37-39. This portion of the book of Ezekiel is also good to study the life of a true prophet of God. Just as we have medical doctors in different practices (general medicine and specialists) so we have prophets. Ezekiel was not a general prophet who generalized prophecies which anybody could claim, but he said specific prophecies as the Lord directed and pin-pointedly gave him to speak. Two attributes could be noticed in his calling; total reliance on what God had to say and unfailing prophecy. Genuine prophets are just servants that will not take any action, no matter how trivial, without asking God what His mind is. They say whatever God says and stay by it; you can’t change them. They are not pastors or evangelists. They are not teachers; teachers come down to the level of their students. The prophets’ expressions are mostly symbolic, poetic or in parables, sometimes difficult to decode. They behave as fools sometimes because they go by what God says dogmatically. They do not practice by what they hear from any other source apart from God; they go only by what God reveals and says. They regard contrary will or action as blasphemy. In the valley of the dry bones, Ezekiel acted as a novice in all the interactions and he followed instructions step-by-step.

Ezekiel 37:3-4 “And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest. Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.

God did make him to see many things but Ezekiel never opened his mouth to say a thing without God telling him to prophesy.

To be a real prophet of God, His Spirit must find a place in you called the DEEP where He could store data and information.

Amos 3:7 “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

When a prophet decides to become a parrot, God cannot go far with him. Your tongue must go through deep purging before He could set you up. He did it to Isaiah and Jeremiah. In Ezekiel’s case God padlocked his mouth and held the key.

Ezekiel 3:26-27 “And I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: for they are a rebellious house. But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.

Your tongue matters as an oracle of God; otherwise, there will be misuse of authority; abuse of grace. A prophet is rebellious if the action he took is not as directed by God; a good example was King Saul who lost this grace.

You don’t become a prophet by decision, prayer, fasting or any spiritual exercise, IT IS BY GRACE. Your much prayer and fasting don’t bring this grace; it only boosts the gift within you. Remember that He gives as He wills.

1 Corinthians 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.”

A prophet is not a seer. Grace is only available for you where He has called you to. If you go out of the jurisdiction He has provided for you, you could be wounded even though you are enjoying His keeping power. This keeping power is the last resort for you to go back to where His grace is available for you. And if you tarry too long, not making use of this keeping power, one could become an “Ichabod”

1 Corinthians 7:20 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Ezekiel40-42. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

THE GARMENT THAT MUST BE BURNT; PRIDE

Bible In One Year-Day 220 (Thursday, August 08, 2013)

Commentary: Ezekiel31-33. It has been in the nature of man that at the peak of their glory and honor, pride takes over. Here Pharaoh was likened to a well nurtured and pruned tree whose branches gave it unrivaled beauty.

Ezekiel 31:7 “Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters.

Ezekiel 31:9 “I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

God was referring to Pharaoh here. His wings had grown that he despised God.

Ezekiel 31:18 “To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

Pride, just like all other vices, is sin before the Lord. As we discussed in the last commentary, pride could be hidden or opened. Trusting in one’s righteousness is pride and it is sin before the Lord.

Ezekiel 33:13 “When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.

We need to trust in God’s mercy.

Not all the messages we hear from the pulpits are kingdom life messages. Some are feel good messages that make the flesh happy but send leanness to the soul. The kingdom life messages we hear on pulpits are actually trumpets of warning, but, unfortunately, many take it as fun time. They are for us to have a sober reflection, check ourselves and repent from ungodly assignments in our hands. Ezekiel was set as a watchman over Israel to blow the trumpet of warning to them to repent.

Ezekiel 33:4-5 “Then whosoever heareth … the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.

There are messages of encouragement and there are messages of warnings. Those for encouragement are to build our faith and instill hope in us. But those for warnings are to alert us against the wrath/sword to come. God does not take delight in the death of a sinner but for him to turn from wickedness and hold unto God’s righteousness.

Ezekiel 33:11 “Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Ezekiel34-36. Keep the fire of burning and alive.
