VANITY: AN ACT OF TIME WASTING

Bible In One Year-Day 204 (Wednesday, July 23, 2014)

Commentary: Ecclestiases1-3. The preacher is thought to be King Solomon going by Eccl1:1&12. His messages in these three chapters focus on VANITY and TIME. Vanity in the sense that nothing is new under the Sun. Whatever we experience or see now had at one time or the other happened before.

Ecclesiastes 1:10 “Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old (i.e. ancient) time, which was before us.

This is why the Bible touches all aspects of life. There is no experience outside of the Bible; therefore, it is called the BOOK OF LIFE, i.e. it cannot expire.

Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

With this understanding, we should hold every bit of the word of God seriously. It is vanity to aspire to be the greatest man on earth, best preacher on earth, best prophet on earth, the richest on earth, or even be the wisest and most knowledgeable man on earth. This is why sorrow, grief, rivalry and jealousy increase.

Ecclesiastes 1:18 “For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

Solomon appropriated his gift of wisdom. Any gift, talent or blessing you have is not new but had in time past been and you are only privileged to have it in this present time. And for the mere fact that you have it now does not mean there is not somebody, somewhere not equally privileged, if not better. Therefore, every aspiration to be the best is vanity and it amounts to foolishness. What you need is to meet the time God has given you to carry out the task given.

Ecclesiastes 2:15-16 “Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity. For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.

The simple translation of these two verses is that if the person endowed with wisdom changes focus to be the best rather than be conscious of time, he eventually has taken the path of foolishness, because when another comes the present will be done away with. The great men of God with wonderful endowment of our time have been given spiritual blessings and gifts to work for our time. In years to come, if the Lord tarries, it will become stories but those who will be living then will only seek for the gift available for them. God gives according to the need in time. When we study the work of great men of God that are gone to glory, we are acquiring knowledge. But our contact with those living now will release life of the Spirit into us. Knowledge is good, but having understanding is better; understanding is having the light of the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus unlocked the understanding of those with Him, Luke 24:44-45. For instance, I could study to teach the Holy Spirit very well, but the power and experience of the Holy Spirit is of God and Him only. We could study the works of John Wesley and others in his ilk very well and become Professors (professionals) in it, the power of God is only given by GOD, i.e. what Wesley experienced for him to do those works is of God; the disciples had to wait at the upper chamber for that experience. This is why we need to be more conscious of time and not to seek for praises of men. Time will not wait for anyone. Whatever gift you have, seek not self appraisal but quickly make use of it because the body is perishing everyday. The wise is that person who realizes his spiritual gift and set at work immediately just as Jesus said;

John 9:4 “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

Such seeks to get the divine assignment done and does not seek for position, rank, place or unnecessary recognition; it is all about HIM who sent. Many of us have wasted time but now living a life of regret. There is hope, beloved. You could pray to God to rekindle the fire, bring revival and renew the covenant. If Moses entered a new agreement with God at age 80, you have hope. If Apostle Paul could be considered without the merit of his own, there is hope for you. The best is yet to come, beloved. The hope could only be found in Christ Jesus. Remember, He said to Peter “I will make you …” To be great in God, you must have the understanding of time like the children of Issachar, 1Ch12:32. Move in accordance with God’s timing and not in the dictates of men. What He has given you is for you to function in His economy and if you don’t move along, He changes hands. God’s time is the best. Any task given you, do it with the whole of your heart to please Him and not any man. When you align your labor in carrying out the given task with His time, it becomes beautiful.

Ecclesiastes 3:9-11 “What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it. He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

What you make yourself look like is not the issue in God’s economy, but what HE makes out of you in His time; this is what stays forever.

Ecclesiastes 3:14-15 “I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past (i.e. give account).

Whoever works within God’s timing is the one that fulfills destiny. We shall all return to the dust.

Ecclesiastes 3:18-20 “I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts. For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

We all love putting on wristwatches (time counter), not knowing that we are putting on a witness against us. The bitter part of it is that many read the time wrongly. Wasting time is wasting life. Church politics is waste of time. Eye service and evil errand is waste of time. Keeping record of offenses is waste of time. Breeding strife where love is supposed to be is waste of time. Eccl3:15 says God requires giving of account, i.e. account of life. You shall not be wasted in the name of Jesus Christ.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

The important thing about life is that it becomes substantive if you understand “Time”.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Ecclestiaste4-6. Keep the fire burning and alive.

THE WOMAN WITH VIRTUE

Bible In One Year-Day 203 (Tuesday, July 22, 2014)

Commentary: Proverbs28-31. There are three levels of womanhood; woman, wife and a virtuous woman. The first one is a natural phenomenon, while the second is how you make yourself. But to be a virtuous woman, only God can make that be. The attribute of a virtuous woman is absolutely of the Holy Spirit and that is why she is tagged VIRTUOUS, i.e. full of virtue (which means POWER FOR EXCELLENCE AND GLORY). Virtue is not a physical thing but spiritual. Virtue goes out to give life and solution to peoples’ problems. Virtue ensures things go as they ought to go; this means it restores the original where pervesion is, just as it restores the health of the woman with the issue of blood. Whoever carries virtue is a solution to human problems. Jesus said virtue has gone out of me and somebody was healed of unexplainable problem.

Luke 8:46 “And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.”

When a woman without virtue gives out crates of bottled water or even water dispenser, it will end up in strife. But if a woman of virtue gives you just a cup of water, you cannot hold back blessing her because it is going to meet the need in a timely manner and whatever she does is blessed; her actions are led by the Spirit and not by zeal. For a woman to be tagged ‘VIRTUOUS’ means she is a wonderful channel for the beauty and goodness of God; she is a satisfaction as a wife, a satisfaction as a mother, a satisfaction as relation and neighbor, a satisfaction in all ramifications of womanhood. You cannot come across her and ignore her; she is full of irresistible virtue. In character, in words and in deeds, you could see the presence of the glory of Jesus. Esther had that virtue and the king could not resist it. Virtue is beauty within; it is a fountain of living water that satisfies thirsty souls.

1 Peter 3:3-4 Whose adorning let it not be the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on apparel;but let it bethe hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible apparelof a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”

The food of a woman without virtue is snare and the gift is a trap but that of a virtuous woman is an expression of God’s love and kindness. The work of the hand of a virtuous wife praises her and gives her no pride of heart. This is not so with a woman without this divine endowment; her work will bound you to the valley. All the prophets who ate at Jezebel’s table were bound to the valley. They fell from the presence of God to the ground under Jezebel’s feet. To be a virtuous woman, ask for the fullness of the Holy Spirit and let the word of God find a place in you. This applies to men also.

Proverbs 31:10-31 “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

One of the things that affect the world negatively is a hateful or bitter woman who gets married. The world could only be sweet when a loving and virtuous woman becomes a mother; she is a mother to all around her. A virtuous woman is not a lord over her husband or those around her. She is respectful and not domineering; a contact with her is a contact with a bliss of love and kindness. We need women of virtue and men of valor. May God give us in Jesus name (Amen).

Proverbs 21:19 “It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Ecclestiaste1-3. Keep the fire burning and alive.

Proverbs 28:13 “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

THE NAKED KING

Bible In One Year-Day 202 (Monday, July 21, 2014)

Commentary: Proverbs25-27. What a way to learn to keep secrets and live a life of moderation.

Proverbs 25:3 “The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

When you see a king without a place of secrecy inside of him, you have seen a naked king due to fall. This proverb came out of the mouth of King Solomon, but he was found showing a stranger all he had, even the secret of his rooms. To everyone God has a covenant with there is a secret he has to keep to himself. The covenant is in that secret and it must be within him. When he exposes it, he is finished. Samson had the secret of his greatness in his heart and the symbol was the hair, but unfortunately, he revealed it to Delilah; that changed his status. The glory of a king without a place within him to keep secret can easily be removed by the enemy. Joseph could not keep secret in the first place and that landed him in an unpleasant place. If we are not wise in walking with God, two things could happen; either the appointment is terminated or God sends the person to the school of wisdom and humility; this school is intense. There is no double promotion there; however, every subject and course must be taken, no matter how brilliant one is. What you are going through now could be as a result of loosing or exposing a secret to the enemy like Joseph. You have to endure through the training until God says you have graduated and your seat of fulfillment shall be handed over to you by a person that matters. The goal is for one to be disciplined and moderate in all dealings. As sweet as honey is, too much of it will result in discomfort; i.e. to say moderation is part of kingdom walk.

Proverbs 25:16 “Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Proverbs28-31. Keep the fire burning and alive.

THE GOOD NAME

Bible In One Year-Day 201 (Sunday, July 20, 2014)

Commentary: Proverbs22-24. The commentary in these chapters centers on a good name.

Proverbs 22:1 “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

The character a man exhibits makes the name good or bad. In the Bible, we could see many names with wonderful meanings but the character bearing the names is very bad which made people to renounce the name. When somebody’s attitude is admirable, people want to identify with such. They want to bear the name. Same thing goes for what they use. For instance, if such wears a particular type of cap, people call the cap by the name of that famous person. A times, they make such famous person to sign contracts of using the image of the person for adverts. Here the bible made us understand that good name is better than riches. When you start running after money, what is behind your mind goes beyond feeding yourself, but to buy good name in doing one thing or the other. In essence, we run after riches to buy good name. But the bible tells us that the good name is better than riches. To get a good name, you must fear God and run from evil. The fear of God makes you to be honest and want to serve humanity with the whole of your heart.

Proverbs 22:4 “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

There are rules that guided the renowned people of old, this is called the ancient landmark; such as humility, honesty, love, tolerance and the fear of God, we should not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:28 “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

Children are being corrected because of good name.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Proverbs25-27. Keep the fire burning and alive.

Proverbs 23:10-11 “Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.

DEALING WITH LYING SPIRIT

Bible In One Year-Day 200 (Saturday, July 19, 2014)

Commentary: Proverbs19-21. Lying tongue is deadly to the carrier and to those who are friends to it. King Ahab was a victim of lying tongues and he ended up in untimely death.

1 Kings 22:22 “And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

Every lying tongue is under the control of a lying spirit. Once that happens, it goes about to give false witnesses and speaking of lies.

Proverbs 20:19 “He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

Such tongues are involved in diverse weights and deceits. Only deliverance can solve the problem.

Proverbs 21:30-31 “There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

Without deliverance, havoc is inevitable where lying tongue rules. To have a lying spirit does not stop one from becoming a pastor, bishop, etc. the prophets around king Ahab had this evil spirit. The book of Ezekiel made us to understand that lying spirit can be found among the people of God.

Ezekiel 13:9 And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.”

Lying spirit encourages rebellion against the Lord and disunity among brethren, i.e. separates friends. Any man of God that has this spirit could easily be manipulated by other evil spirits. Any Christian having this evil spirit will definitely live in deceit. Satan adopts Christians with this evil spirit; that is the reason for calling him the father of liars. Once a person is possessed with this spirit, such automatically becomes an adopted child of Satan. To overcome this yoke, you need to subject yourself to deliverance and ask God to give you a soft tongue, new heart and a new spirit. Isaiah received purging on his tongue and his ministry was totally transformed.

KJV-R (Webster) Isaiah 6:5-7 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.”

Isaiah received the specific ministry only after his tongue was purged; God’s word must remain pure and must be delivered as it is; no addition or subtraction. God’s word is what He has to say and not what you want to hear. The Bible perfectly described the state of our tongue and what to do about it in James3.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Proverbs22-24. Keep the fire burning and alive.
