SEVEN BENEFITS OF THE CROSS

Bible In One Year-Day 294 (Tuesday, October 21, 2014)

Commentary: Isaiah21-24. God is supreme in all wise. His decision is final and His counsel is indisputable. Though we do not see Him but His acts are unquestionably seen. Whatever He summed up to do receives support from everything created or made. Once He calls any man for an assignment, He clothes such with authority and empowers with His strength, e.g. Isa22:20-23. God installs and can remove a person from his position. Indeed, all power belongs to Him. According to Isa24:1-3, the dealing of the Lord has no respect for anyone. He respects covenants and therefore, His covenant must be respected. Otherwise, any violation incurs curses from heaven. To every covenant, there is a curse. Curses come to be when the covenant attached to it is broken. When a person becomes born again, such should not stop there; rather he should go further to break all unrighteous covenants with its curses. This is the benefit and grace of salvation. If these are not dealt with, one might not enjoy the benefits of Christianity.

The people of the earth are mourning and the earth fading away because of defilement and the breaking of everlasting covenant. This incurred curses that are devouring the earth.

Isaiah 24:5-6 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.”

This resulted in the sound of joy to cease, Isa24:7-9. Christians need to check their ways whenever there is such situation in the lives. Each time joy ceases in the heart, look back and trace out where the covenant has been negatively affected. All that we need, Christ paid the price on the cross of Calvary.

Revelation 5:12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.”

These are the seven benefits of the cross and they are our rights. We don’t need Christ any more on the cross to get these for us; He had already done it and it is our duty to ensure we get them. However, to get them, Christ must be the Lord; you submit all to Him. You must accept the covenant in Christ Jesus first before you can enjoy the seven benefits of His cross. This is what sets you as a peg in a secured place. May His grace and mercy renew any broken covenant in your life, in the name of Jesus. (Amen).

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Isaiah25-28. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

GOD’S CHASTISEMENT

Bible In One Year-Day 293 (Monday, October 20, 2014)

Commentary: Isaiah17-20. Isaiah received another burden which was against the city of Damascus. As we know, burden is a revelation received as light which translates into troubled heart or restlessness in our mind (thoughts). Before now, Damascus led evil alliance (Israel and Syria) against Judah which caused God’s judgment to fall on her. Israel was not exempted from God’s anger.

Isaiah 17:4 And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.”

Israel, the northern part of the nation, acted wickedly against the southern part, Judah. They were supposed to be brothers. This act of wickedness angered God. He therefore judged that particular act. Whenever a child of God acts wickedly and he is subjected to God’s chastisement, the consequence could be very grievous; however, God’s love isn’t removed. He still remains his God. God corrects us in love through His chastisement (Heb12).

Proverbs 3:11-12 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.”

God’s chastisement shows that such person is truly His child. It is to make the person realize the gravity of the wicked act. It is to make the person see the negative side of his wicked action. It is to make the person regret his action. It is to bring the person back to the path of light from the path of destruction. It is to make the person realize that he is working for the devil against God. Wickedness could be sweet whilst doing it, but the end is bitterly bitter. Hence, God’s chastisement is to make the person have a taste of the end before he gets there so that such could repent. In the same view, God’s chastisement is painful but with a peaceable ending.

Hebrews 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness to them which are exercised thereby.”

Summarily, God’s chastisement is to get His children to repent from acts of wickedness. God judged Israel while He still remained their father; they are not bastards.

Search your heart and see if there is any wickedness in it; ask the Lord to deliver you from it. It may be the reason behind the strength of your problems. This was the prayer of the psalmist.

Psalms 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

You need to pray the prayer also. And God shall be a Help to you. The heart receives and the mind processes what is received through thoughts which eventually become the path the person treads. Lot faced Sodom. He ended up there. Your thought is a major factor in where you end up. Your thought processes the burden the heart receives. Jesus wants us to receive His burden and process it in our thought. The thought affects your emotion and the emotion plays a major factor in your will. Thoughts and emotion cannot take their course without engaging your will. Your ‘will’ is the final discourse before any action is taken. Behind every action is this trend; the heart, the thought (mind), the emotion and the will. If the action is wicked, then the root of it is Satan filling the heart with his burden. And if it is good, then, the Holy Spirit has filled the heart with His burden. The actions that take root in Satan are what the bible refers to as iniquity, no matter how good it seems.

Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land?”

This couple did ‘good’ in the sight of men, but the ‘good’ was as a result of Satan’s infilling. This type of work is what God will judge on the last day. Any good work having its root in Satan will go with Satan. Deceivers are workers of iniquity.

On the other hand, allowing the light of God’s Spirit to shine in your spirit will become a burden that you will want to pursue with all your life just as Paul did. May that type light fall on your soul in the name of Jesus. In the beginning of Isaiah’s ministry, he received the revelation of God’s burden and this became part of him.

Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Isaiah21-24. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

UNDESIRABLE IGNORANCE

Bible In One Year-Day 290 (Friday, October 17, 2014)

Commentary: Isaiah5-8. The greatest problem of God is the ignorance of His (not the devil’s) people. Twice in the scripture, He lamented this regarding His own people.

Isaiah 5:13-14 Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst. Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.”

From this aspect of our reading, we could see that the devil did little compared to the ignorance of God’s people; he is actually taking advantage of their ignorance. To lack knowledge is a great disease which could sink the glory and the wealth of a nation, not to talk of individuals. The lack of knowledge in secular matters is not what sends people to hell, but the lack of knowledge in spiritual things. 1 Corinthians 8 is worth reading with respect to spiritual knowledge.

1 Corinthians 8:2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.”

Conscience is a very important factor in walking in the spirit. However, the conscience is being controlled by knowledge. When God is not retained in this knowledge, it is empty and it leads into hell.

Romans 10:2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.”

Having knowledge requires the illumination of the Holy Spirit. Memorizing the whole bible without this light cannot get one out of darkness. Therefore, when you get the knowledge, you must seek for the Spirit of the word. When you connect with the Spirit of the word, this is what the bible calls retaining God in your knowledge. The absence of the light of the Spirit in acquired knowledge will make one to serve the devil with the thought that God is being served. God cannot be pleased in this way.

Therefore, when you acquire knowledge, you must let the Spirit of the word teach you further on what you have acquired through studies, prayer and meditation. After the knowledge is enlightened, it teaches the conscience and the conscience speaks or suggests to you based on the level or degree of the knowledge you have. None compliance to what the conscience says makes you guilty within and dissatisfied. On the other hand, obeying your conscience gives you internal satisfaction and peace. Hence, hell is denied another food. This is how to walk in the spirit.

In the Old Testament, God complained about the ignorant of His people as lack of knowledge. But in the New Testament, the complaint of Jesus was lack of faith or little faith. Differences in the degree of knowledge are what make us different in spiritual matters. The more knowledge you have, the better you are in understanding your conscience. It is through knowledge that you know the difference between good and evil.

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Isaiah9-12. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

ANNOYING INIQUITY

Bible In One Year-Day 289 (Thursday, October 16, 2014)

Commentary: Isaiah1-4. The ministry of Prophet Isaiah spanned for about forty years. He was a prophet at the time four kings consecutively reigned in Judah; Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. The book of Isaiah contains sixty-six chapters just as the Bible has sixty-six books. The first thirty-nine chapters are about the judgment of God on the sins of Judah and the surrounding nations while the last 27 brings hope. Chapters1-5 is an introduction of Prophet Isaiah’s ministry and the state of the decays of the nations; sick nations with fainting hearts.

Isaiah 1:5-6 Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.”

The people wanted to bribe God with the mode of worship and sacrifices while they remained in the annoying iniquity. The hands they lifted were hands of blood. Their sacrifices were futile sacrifices. It was quite unfortunate that everything in the nations went wrong; money, friends, etc.

Isaiah 1:21-23 How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers. Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water: Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts (bribes), and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.”

Many times we have tried severally to bribe our conscience instead of making the wrong things right. This is not what God desires from us.

Isaiah 1:18-19 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:”

For twenty years, Jacob ran from Esau. On returning, he tried to bribe his conscience. Unfortunately, as he got closer to Esau, his conscience became louder and disquieted. The consequence was that he gave out more than half of what he acquired while on exile and also put his family in danger by sending them to meet Esau and his people while he stood back. To bribe the conscience is to run from the truth. It is to stay away from correcting the wrong by working on an alternative route. It is to pretend as if nothing is wrong. It is acting ‘good’ with a filthy heart. It is putting on religion while God is absent within (darkness). It is refusing to make restitution where necessary.

The cry of the gospel is “repent ye, for the kingdom of God is at hand” It is the same cry in the Epistle.

Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:”

And that is the cry from heaven now.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Surprisingly, there is no righteous person in heaven; you will only find them in hell.

1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”

Apostles Peter, Paul, John, etc were sinners who repented and made heaven. They reasoned with the Lord and their sins were washed away. They never claimed to be righteous but boastful in Christ’s saving grace. You need to do the same.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Isaiah5-8. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

ADOPT THE ATTITUDE OF PRAISES

Bible In One Year-Day 288 (Wednesday, October 15, 2014)

Commentary: Psalms146-150. The Psalmist started the book of Psalms with the benefits of being principled in God. He, then, through the chapters narrated his ordeals in life. In these last five chapters, he praised the Lord and encourages us to do same at all times. In his word, he said nothing is as good as using your life to praise the Lord.

Psalms 146:1-2 Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul. While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.”

To have your ‘being’ is to have your spirit in the flesh. It is to have God’s breathe in you. It is for your flesh to still be in connection with life. It is for your spirit to be conscious of the divine. Once the spirit is separated from the flesh, a man ceases to exist on earth. As a result, all that a man has, begins to decay to non-existence; even his plans. It is a pity that those who make plans for children unborn are ignorant of this fact. The only enduring investment a man can make is to make sure that the souls of the children receive life. This is the message of the psalmist.

Psalms 146:3-5 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts (i.e. plans) perish. Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:”

The best a man could do for himself is to hope in God. The psalmist says “happy” is he who does this. To be happy in this sense is to have a SINGING SPIRIT. This singing spirit is not to stand before the congregation and lead in a powerful praise and worship, or special number. A singing spirit is that which;

  1. Know how good God is.
  2. Counts his blessings and name them one by one.
  3. Talks less of the problems but speaks more of God’s goodness.
  4. Sees the attributes of God and praise Him for that.
  5. He realizes that it is good to praise Him in every situation even if the situation is not in agreement with praises.

Psalms 147:1 Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.”

  1. Appreciates the works of God in the universe.
  2. Moves ahead despite all condemnations and distractions.
  3. Learns through afflictions and difficult times.
  4. Believe God for a joyous end.
  5. Hopes in God through thick and thin.
  6. Sees God’s hand through thick darkness of this world.

Psalmist conclusively realizes that THROUGH IT ALL God has been so good to him.

Psalms 150:1-6 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”

The purpose of God’s breathe in you is to glorify Him through unceasing praises. A singing spirit is only for those who hope in God; such will definitely praise Him without being told to do so.

Psalms 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.”

May the Lord bless you with a SINGING SPIRIT, in the name of Jesus. Here we conclude the book of Psalms

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Isaiah1-4. Keep the fire of prayer burning and alive on the altar of love.
