IN HIS PRESENCE

Bible In One Year-Day 263 (Saturday, September 20, 2014)

Commentary: 26-30. The psalmist greatest desire was the presence of the Lord, the atmosphere of His glory.

MLB Psalms 26:8 O Lord, I love the habitation of Thy house and the place where Thy glory dwells.”

Psalms 27:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.”

To be in God’s presence demands some conditions which the psalmist remarked in Psalm24:3-4

  1. Clean hands: that is, no bloodshed and no crookedness in any form.
  2. Pure hearts: this is having no idol in the heart and no hidden agenda, i.e. deceit.
  3. Not standing in self righteousness but claiming God’s mercy.
  4. No self justification in His presence.
  5. No pointing of fingers in His presence.
  6. You must not identify with sinners, i.e. in actions and deeds.

Many benefits are in His presence. These include:

  1. Fullness of joy
  2. Enduring mercy
  3. Everlasting Pleasures
  4. Blessings
  5. Become ignited by the brightness before Him (2Sam22:13); i.e. you never remain the same just as Moses carried the glory after leaving God’s presence.
  6. Peace of mind
  7. Unshakeable faith
  8. There are strength, confidence, praise and peace in His presence.
  9. Sorrows are taken away and mourning replaced with dancing.

Psalms 30:11-12 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.”

The presence of God is sweet and of glorious experience. The Psalmist narrated this experience a great deal in terms of His voice is Psalm29. We need to seek for His presence. His presence is brought to us by His Spirit. Jesus says that if He cast out demons by the Spirit of God, it means the Kingdom of God has come to us. This simply means that the presence of the Holy Spirit is the presence of the atmosphere of God’s presence and glory. This is grace. When the Holy Spirit comes into your heart, God’s presence becomes heaven to you.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you.”

The things of God cannot be accomplished without the Holy Spirit. And you cannot hear the voice of God without the Holy Spirit.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Psalms31-35. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

WHEN SUFFERING IS NECESSARY

Bible In One Year-Day262 (Friday, September 19, 2014)

Commentary: Psalms21-25. The unrivaled favor God has for a king is the message of chapter21. Chapter22 on the other hand is the narration of the suffering of the righteous. His lamentation was like there was total silence from heaven.

MLB Psalms 22:1-2 MY GOD, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me, so far from helping me and from the words of my groaning? O my God, I call by day, but Thou dost not answer, and by night, but I find no rest.”

In this chapter22, there is not any reference to any sin committed by the psalmist; rather, we could see that he was unjustifiably persecuted and closely oppressed by fierce and unscrupulous people expressed as ‘bulls’ and ‘dogs’.

Psalms 22:16-18 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.”

The fulfillment of this in Jesus Christ made us to realize that this chapter22 was a messianic psalm in which Christ’s suffering was prophesied.

Matthew 27:35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture they cast lots.”

There is a great difference between the suffering of the wicked and that of the righteous. The suffering of the wicked is reaping of sown evil seeds, i.e. his harvest. And this could lead to total destruction unless he repents. The suffering of the righteous is for a purpose;

  1. It is the Lord’s way of re-branding that life. Joseph went through it and his life was re-branded to suit the revelation given to him as a young and inexperienced man.
  2. It is to infuse an experience into that person. With this experience, FAITH is built within that person. Faith is what pleases God.
  3. It is to knit the revelation into the spirit, soul and body of that person; that is, the life of that person and the revelation given becomes one (inseparable) at the long run.
  4. It is to empty the person of ‘self confidence’ and inculcate total reliance on God.
  5. It is to kill pride and build humility. God stands to honor any person wearing the garment of humility (not forced gentility)

Ephesians 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

  1. It is to inculcate discipline in you.
  2. It is to create a thirst for Him.
  3. It is to deal with the stiffness in you and soften you to be able to embrace purpose.
  4. It is to refine the life to the standard of revealing God’s glory.
  5. It is to purge the person of ‘self’
  6. It is for the person to recognize and appreciate grace.
  7. It is to bring the best out of you.
  8. It is to mature the life to the point of yielding the fruit of the Spirit, especially PATIENCE.
  9. It is to prepare the person for the praise in the purposed assignment. That is, knowing to give God the glory when it is revealed. To be able to manage praise, you must taste ridicule, condemnation and persecutions. To be able to manage prosperity, you must taste poverty. Those who fall when they find themselves in elevated positions are those who skipped God’s course or subject of suffering in God’s college.

Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”

  1. It is for the glory of God to be fully revealed

Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

Beloved, God is in the sufferings of the righteous. The perfection of God’s plan is in the suffering of the righteous and not in what people see afterwards. That is, God’s plan and revelation is fully built in the suffering of the person carry the grace and not the number of people surrounding him.

Hebrews 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”

The evidence of the perfection is the glory which people see afterwards. This is why it is absolutely wrong to imitate any person when it comes to God’s work; submit yourself to God’s training, His time is the best. Those who run competitively in God’s work are not being led by him because His grace to individuals differs and He gives as He wills. There are numerous scriptural passages that tell us that in His time, glory is always revealed.

1 Peter 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.”

1 Peter 4:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.”

Only God can set the time for your perfection, and not the number of days you have chosen to fast and pray. If God suggests two years, it will never be reduced. However, you could increase it if you refuse to yield to His pruning. When taking this course of suffering, no anointed man of God on earth can reduce or skip any phase or topic for you; he could only counsel you to yield. Truly, the righteous’ suffering is a calling to the saints in Christ.

MLB 1 Peter 2:18-22 You domestic slaves should with unqualified respect be submissive to your masters, not only to the kind and considerate but also to those who are harsh; for this is meritorious, if with consciousness of God one endures the pain of unjust sufferings. For what merit is there in standing a beating for doing wrong? But if you bear patiently with suffering when you are doing right, this is pleasing to God. To such experience you have been called; for Christ also suffered for you and left behind an example, that you might follow in His footsteps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in His mouth,”

Righteous Suffering is a calling as Christ also experienced it. There is a glory that can manifest only through it. Don’t despise that moment but appreciate it and progressively endure through.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Psalm26-30. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

JESUS CAN RIGHT THE WRONG

Bible In One Year-Day 261 (Thursday, September 18, 2014)

Commentary: Psalms16-20. There are two deities majorly recognized; The God who made heaven and earth, and the other gods. These other gods are not made by the God who made heaven and earth. They are regarded as thieves. They have no enduring goodness. When they give the likeness of goodness, it is to steal the future of the recipient thereby multiplying the sorrow of such. This is the message of the psalmist and his admonition not to seek after them.

Psalms 16:4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.”

The psalmist refused to participate in any form of their worship and also rejected the names of these gods on his lips. He recognized the fact that identifying with such gods and their modes of worship is defilement to him. He chose to enter into the Lord’s portion and made God his inheritance. He recognized the benefits of taking side with the Lord.

Psalms 16:5-6 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.”

Taking side with Jesus is a good heritage and the benefit is that purpose will begin to take its place in such life. That is, His Spirit begins to correct the errors of our life. Jesus made us to know this.

John 15:5 “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

In matters pertaining to life, we can do nothing without Jesus. All other avenues will lead to eternal sorrows. In matters pertaining to God and eternity, Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.

John 14:6 Jesus saith to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father, but by me.”

If a man meets death without meeting Jesus, he cannot get life after death; rather, such heads to eternal damnation. But, any man who dies in Christ has eternal life because Christ is the resurrection.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Psalm21-25. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

FULFILL ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS

Bible In One Year-Day 260 (Wednesday, September 17, 2014)

Commentary: Psalms11-15. In life, foundation is very important. It determines the solidness of the structure and the ability to stand the inevitable storms that confronts life. This is the message of the Psalmist

Psalms 11:2-3 For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

This is a clear picture of the assignment of the wicked; to shoot at the upright in heart. Every life will definitely, at one time or the other, be confronted with the wickedness of the wicked and also undergo a refining moment in life. If that life has no solid foundation, the life cannot withstand the arrow of the wicked and refining moment; it will rather turn to ashes. However, a solid foundation endures this moment and stands out well refined and adorable. Two powers are involved in the test of life; that of the wicked (i.e. the devil) and that of God.

Psalms 11:5 The LORD trieth (tests) the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.”

When the wicked one is involved, its agenda is to steal, kill and destroy. But when God is involved, He takes you through bearable trials and the purpose is to add value to that life.

MLB 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation except what all people experience has laid hold of you, and God is faithful, who will not permit you to be tempted beyond your ability but will, at the time of temptation, provide a way out, so that you will be able to stand it.”

He is righteous and for us to walk with Him, He wants us to be righteous as He is. He wants us to be in agreement with Him without which it is not possible to walk with Him.

Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

Agreeing with all that is God is what righteousness is all about; His purpose, thoughts and conforming in action. Jesus demonstrated this action when John the Baptist wanted to deny Him water baptism.

Matthew 3:15 And Jesus answering said to him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.”

The work of the wicked one is to pervert this righteousness so that the foundation can be destroyed.

Acts 13:10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the demon, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?”

Once the wicked one succeeds, he steals the life of the victim, kills and destroys it; he did it once in the Garden of Eden. We need to be conscious of Satan’s tricks. He subtly starts from the little things to gain entrance into our lives. We need to be watchful and vigilant and not to be over confident of ourselves. Satan is no joker and but a serious personality who means business of stealing, killing and destroying the souls of men. He loves quenching the light of glorious destinies.

Luke 11:35 “Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.”

The warning, therefore, is be careful.

1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”

The truth remains that there is nothing of us, naturally, that can withstand the enemy when he comes. This is why God, in His graciousness, has poured out His Spirit upon us to be empowered against the enemy of our soul. The fullness of His Spirit can only be received through the Lord Jesus Christ. Only in this revered name could the Holy Spirit find a place within us. As soon as this happens, Jesus becomes our righteousness and the foundation becomes strong enough to withstand the wiles of the wicked.

Isaiah 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.”

The wicked one has not change his assignment and agenda. But Jesus came to pave way for a stand against it.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Psalm16-20. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

ENTERING HIS GATES

Bible In One Year-Day 259 (Tuesday, September 16, 2014)

Commentary: Psalm6-10. The Psalmist reflected in these chapters that he was also not exempted from the troubles of life. Rather than for the troubles to take him far from God, it made him closer through prayers. Prayer is absolutely necessary in the life of God’s children. The love you have for God will reflect in the manner you pray to Him. If prayers are timed, then your relationship with God is timed. When you stop praying, you have cut off God. Prayer is the means of communicating with God. Through prayers (from the heart) you enjoy His presence. The Psalmist took his weakness and weariness to God in prayer.

Psalms 6:2-3 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?”

The enemy never gave him a breathing space; he took it to God.

Psalms 7:9-10 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins. My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.”

Looking into the pattern of prayer of the Psalmist, we could see that he started with humility before God by asking for mercy. He then tendered his weakness and showed God that his confidence is in God and not in himself. He moved to lay his complaint to God and then in chapters8-9, he praised the Lord. Many people are always carried away with their problems not knowing how to praise the Lord. Praises are cogent part of prayer. No prayer is complete without thanksgiving and praises.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

To enter the gate (i.e. seat of the Most High), you need to thank Him. This is what opens His presence to you. After entering, you praise him to seek for favor to judge you problems; realize that you do not deserve his presence considering your filthiness; no man is righteous before Him.

Psalms 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”

In chapter10, the Psalmist demanded God’s judgment upon the wickedness of the wicked. This happened after he had settled himself before the Lord.

Psalms 10:1-2 Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble? The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.”

Psalms 10:14-15 Thou hast seen it; …; thou art the helper of the fatherless. Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.”

Vengeance belongs to God, but before you can invoke His vengeance you must justify yourself before Him. This is the teaching of the Psalmist. Christ is our redeemer and through Him we are justified. Without Jesus, the enemy prevails unhindered.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Psalm11-15. Keep the fire of burning and alive.
