THE OTHER SIDE OF JESUS (4)

Bible In One Year-Day 313 (Saturday, November 09, 2013)

Commentary: Acts9-12. These chapters are the most informative about a uniquely transformed life by the other side of Jesus. The other side of Jesus is Light and it is the Word. A taste or experience of them will give a dramatic transformation which will give the victim a totally new being or life.

Acts 9:1-2 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.”

Saul of Tarsus was a well learned man in the law of the Old Testament. He was full of zeal for God but never had the experience of that God. He thaught he was fighting for God not knowing he was actually fighting against God. His master, Gamaliel, had warned against this act hitherto. But Saul was consumed in his zeal without knowledge.

Acts 5:34, 38-39 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space; … And now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.”

In his zeal without revelation knowledge, he was hateful and to kill never meant anything to him. His work for God was not from the inner life but from the letters, hence, to kill was a good thing to him. To the glory of God, the Light and the Word met him on active duty of unrighteousness and the darkness of his work was revealed to him. He came to realize that he was involved in an unauthorized work for the Lord. He came to realize that he was actually working against God. That was why he requested for the right and approved assignment from the Lord.

Acts 9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said to him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.”

He received divine direction when he came to the knowledge of the truth of the Lord Jesus Christ. Without experiencing the other side of Jesus, our work for God would be destructive. It will be persecution in disguise; hatred, breathing threats and murder against the saints. We may know the scripture very well just like Saul, but it will not go beyond the intellectual level of our outward being and this could be hijacked by the devil to be misappropriated. Such works are likened to religious programs without revelations but disguisingly manipulative and exploitative. Whatever we do for God must take its root in what the other side of Jesus dictates, i.e. the Spirit of Christ. For instance, Ananias was a man of light. He received specific instruction to go to Saul. Correspondingly, Saul, who now has that other side of Jesus, was prepared for Ananias through revelation by the same Spirit. Ananias’ work was perfected in Saul and Saul’s candle was kindled by the light which was already in Ananias. This is how ministers should work; using their different graces to help one another and not to be envious of and castigate one another.

Acts 9:10-12 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. And the Lord said to him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.”

Saul had been transformed to the other side as well. The word of God revealed that he that is joined with the Lord is one spirit, 1Cor6:17. Hence, Saul took the nature of the other side of Jesus; he prayed and saw vision. Though he was blind physically, he could see what ordinary person couldn’t see. This grace started from when he saw the light. People around him couldn’t see the person speaking with him but heard Paul speaking with somebody. It is an awesome experience of the other side of Jesus, i.e. in the Spirit. Once you see Him, you will continue to see Him; once you hear Him, you will continue to hear Him.

Acts 9:7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.”

Though they had eyes, they could not see. They could only hear the voice of Saul speaking with somebody they couldn’t see. This was Saul’s narration in Acts22:9.

Acts 22:9 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spoke to me.”

They couldn’t hear because they were still natural. They only saw the light around Saul but the light did not touch them. This is a most miserable situation; to see the glory of God in another person’s life but not experiencing it. Only the light of the other side of Jesus could transform a person.

Psalms 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.”

Saul’s reaction to the light really showed he was a simple man by nature. His problem was that he had not received the light. When Jesus came into his life, the light banished the darkness in him; he got the right understanding and no longer walked in darkness just as Jesus says, John8:12.

John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

The word of Jesus entered into Saul as life and he resurrected from dead works into righteousness and prayer. The light broke the yoke of darkness in his soul.

John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”

Jesus is the Light, he is love, he is our righteousness and he is the holiness of God. Not until your life has a taste of Him in these four ways and imparts your life in this four ways, you have not known the other side of Jesus. And the work we do for Him is unauthorized; working iniquity. When Saul was working without heavenly authority, he instilled fear in the people, but when he received heavenly authority there was peace.

Acts 9:29-31 And he spoke boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him. Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Cesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus. Then had the churches rest (peace) throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, were multiplied.”

The church is in chaos today because workers of iniquity had mingled with those with heavenly authority. There are slayings of brethren instead of ministering life to brethren. The best thing that can happen to the body of Christ in this present dispensation is for workers to experience the ‘journey to Damascu’ to see the other side of Jesus. May His grace give us the definition of the work we need to do for the Master (Amen).

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Acts13-16. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

THE OTHER SIDE OF JESUS (3)

Bible In One Year-Day 312 (Friday, November 08, 2013)

Commentary: Acts5-8. It is the most blessed thing to have Jesus in you as His Spirit. He creates the thirst for God and gives strength and grace to do the extraordinary. The Apostles’ lives could not be quantified because of the Spirit of Jesus in them. Their acts beat the imagination of the people, even the learned.

Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.”

Further reading into chapter 4 revealed that their prayer was not ordinary; it commanded heavenly authority which broke earthly stronghold (powers of the land).

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.”

In chapter5 they could not be deceived and the prison could not hold or stop them. Their lives followed heavenly order, thereby rendering earthly authorities irrelevant in carrying out the work of the creator.

Acts 5:19-20 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.”

In the same chapter, they made the authority know that they have a higher authority to obey. They became fearless.

Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”

Their speeches were with unusual power, piercing the hearts and ushering light into the hearts of men; quite irresistible.

Acts 6:10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spoke.”

They could not compromise their secret altar of prayer which was the power behind the open preaching, Acts6:4; this is in line with what Jesus taught them.

Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.”

The spirit and life in the word of God were released and the disciples multiplied. They receive angelic direction and persecutions became advantageous to them.

Acts 8:26 And the angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goeth down from Jerusalem to Gaza, which is desert.”

Chapter 6 made us to know that there is no way we could understand the scripture without the Spirit of Christ in us.

Acts 8:29-31 Then the Spirit said to Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.”

The Spirit of Jesus in Philip connected his counselee and that same Spirit taught him. Without experiencing the other side of Jesus, you cannot witness Him by His Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that could convincingly introduce Jesus to people. Whenever we read the Bible, we must be in the spirit and the Spirit of Christ will lead us into the center of God’s thought.

Beloved, the other side of Jesus in us is heavenly experience. The people wanted to kill the Spirit but they could not. Gamaliel advocated for them and make the people know that it would be a battle against God if they tried to kill the Apostles because of the Spirit of Christ in them.

Jeremiah said he wanted to give up but His word has become burning spirit in His bones. The other side of Jesus is Kingdom on earth and this is what we ought to seek.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Jesus is the WORD and His Spirit is in His Word; both light and life are in the Word. This is the other side of Jesus; the WORD.

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Acts9-12. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

THE OTHER SIDE OF JESUS (2)

Bible In One Year-Day 311 (Thursday, November 07, 2013)

Commentary: Acts1-4. As we have seen that there are two sides to the knowledge of Jesus Christ; in knowledge and in spirit (i.e. revelation by the Spirit of God). The filling of our intellect with the knowledge of Christ is one thing and the filling of our heart with the Spirit of life of Christ Jesus is another thing. Those who are filled with the Spirit of life are the true worshippers because they are led by the Spirit of God and not by the flesh. Such true worshippers are not carried away by the gift of the Spirit but take more delight in the infilling of the Spirit of life; you know them by the fruit of the Spirit and not by the gift of the Spirit. Before the death of Jesus, the disciples had operated in the gift of healing, deliverance and raising the death, but at that time they had not experienced Jesus as Spirit because He was not yet glorified. As at that time, they still engaged in non-essentials of life and fight over superiority and greatness. They take pride in demons subjecting to them and not in what heaven says about them. It was easier for them to deny Jesus or even run when He got into trouble. Their weaknesses were clearly evidence in their dealings. But now that He is glorified, He wants us to have Him as Spirit within us so that He could help us and strengthen us in our weaknesses. To operate in the gift of the Spirit is not having Him as Spirit in you. If you have Him as Spirit in you, the best evidence is that people will ‘percieve’ (not see) the FRUIT of His Spirit (it is possible to ‘act’ the fruit of the Spirit in the flesh, but it profits nothing).

Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them,”

Here is what Apostle Paul says;

2 Corinthians 10:7 Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.”

God had made us know through Prophet Samuel what the danger is by looking at things in the outward appearance.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”

You receive Him by faith, but you mnust remain faithful to Him. To remain faithful to Him is to do as the Spirit suggests to you and not as you think or feel. The Holy Spirit must be the administrator of the gift you have received. Walking in the Spirit is to be faithful and these are the people God is waiting for to commend, Matt25:21. Samuel told Saul about this aspect of doing things as the Spirit suggests. He called it “as occasion demands”

1 Samuel 10:7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.”

This means when the Spirit says it is necessary then it is necessary. But Saul acted outside of the Spirit’s suggestion; he dispised the presence of God that was with Him. If God is with you, then respect Him as the General who gives the command; this is the meaning of Jesus is the Lord of your life. An example of what we are saying in the book we are reading now is Peter.

Acts 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,”

Peter acted as the Spirit suggested, i.e. directed. This is in line with what Jesus told them before His bodily departure from the surface of this earth.

Luke 12:11-12 And when they bring you to the synagogues, and to magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: For the Holy Spirit shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.”

If you do good out of emotion and not as the Spirit directs could lead into serious trouble just like the man who wanted to prevent the ark from tilting over was in trouble because he acted out of emotion without the Spirits involvement. Acting without the Spirit’s involvement is like allowing Satan to do his work through the flesh. This leads us to another example of the couple who wanted to bless the Lord without experiencing Jesus as Spirit and Satan took advantage. They wanted to impress men and not heaven.

Acts 5:1-3 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land?”

Instead of this couple to allow themselves to be filled with the Holy Spirit just like Peter was filled, they prefered to be filled with Satan by trying to impress men. Two things are evident in this fillings; truth and lies. These are the fruit of different fillings. If you are filled with Jesus as His Spirit, you will be known by the truth you speak.

1 John 3:6 Whoever abideth in him sinneth not: whoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.”

1 John 5:18 We know that whoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”

On the other hand, if you find it so easy to deceive or lie, Satan has taken over. Unfortunately, this type of infilling has taken over many hearts and pulpits and the result is lying to one another. Many tongues are prophesying lies in the name of the Lord. Some mouths are actually anointed to deceive, yet they are workers in the vineyard. From the experience of Ananias and Sapphira, evidently, one could be in the church and still be an instrument in the hand of Satan. Have you experienced the other side of Jesus?

Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits: Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?”

It is possible to gather by lies. The truth still remains that by the same lie, there shall be a scattering.

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

The end of this couple brought fear upon the church and the result of the truth spoken increased the church.

Acts 5:11-14 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)”

Unfortunately, this type of church is very rare now. A church where there is:

  1. Fear of God and not of man
  2. Prophecies and preachings by the Spirit of God and not by man’s spirit
  3. Sinners are not comfortable in the isle talkless of being a worker; “the rest durst (i.e. outsiders, sinners, unbelievers) no man join himself to them” because the presence of the other side of Jesus heavily present.
  4. Increase in faithful believers

Experiencing the other side of Jesus is not about the gift of the Spirit but about the fruit of the Spirit. You need to know that what we are talking about is not what really happened in the upper room but what happened in the lives of the disciples when Jesus breathed into them; this was when they really experienced the inwardness of Jesus. The upper chamber is for service and therefore they received the gift for the service. But it was the presence of the breath of Jesus in them that promoted the unity which gathered them in the upper room to receive the gift. Their prayer was not for the gift but for them to experience more of the other side of Jesus. The first baptism of the Holy Spirit was not in the upper chamber but when Jesus released His breath on them.

John 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith to them, Receive ye the Holy Spirit:”

From this point, their attitude to one another changed. They began to seek for more of Jesus in prayer. They became more tolerant of one another. Their hearts were of oneness. There was no more superiority complexity, rather, they respected and exalted one another. Love abounded and fellowship was more desired. They had and did things in common. This is the church God is looking for.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Acts5-8. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

THE OTHER SIDE OF JESUS

Bible in One Year-Day 310 (Wednesday, November 06, 2013)

Commentary: John17-21. Many of us know Jesus on one side and little did we know His other side. Knowing the other side of Jesus is not to be taught but to experience Him. the disciples eat with Jesus, moved around and did so many things with Him before His death. Unfortunately, on the three occasions He appeared to them after His death, He was not immediately known. Not until He opened the understanding of those He came in contact with after His death, they never knew Him. It is one thing to know Jesus before death and it is another thing to know Jesus after His resurrection. To know Jesus before His death is to be taught of Him, but to know Jesus after death, i.e. the resurrected Jesus, is to experience Him in His heavenly body; it is to experience Him as Spirit. The disciples did not recognize Jesus at His three appearances to them.

John 21:4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.”

These were the people who did everything with Jesus; they only knew Him one side, they had not known Him on the other side. Over 80% of Christians are just in this group of people who know Jesus on one side but are still ignorant of the other side of Jesus, yet they go to church; as a matter of fact, they put on the collar and fly about preaching Him.Not until the knowledge of the other side of Jesus is realized, one is far from entering the kingdom even though one is working for Him as many claim. Those in this category are regarded as workers of iniquity, i.e. those doing UNAUTHORIZED work. Ant there is a prophecy that is still dangling and waiting for the last day to come to pass over those who have not known the other side of Jesus;

Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

Luke 13:27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.”

All that we have read so far in the gospels are just the aspect of knowing Jesus before His death and after His resurrection. The Epistles are to help us to know Him after His ascension and this is the most important aspect of our Christianity. If you do not know Him after ascension you cannot sit with Him in the position He is now.

Ephesians 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly placesin Christ Jesus:”

And Jesus had spoken concerning those in this group of His knowledge after resurrection and ascension.

John 20:26-29 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be to you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said to him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith to him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

They are those who are not faithless but believing, i.e. those with FAITH; they shall be blessed. They have faith in His word and are baptized by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit introduces Jesus to us. Everything they do is by the Spirit; praise, worship, preach, evangelize, etc.

John 4:23-24 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

Nothing of God is accepted outside of knowing the other side of Jesus. In John 14:6, Jesus says only through Him could we get to God. If this is true (which, of course, is true), then it simply means that the path to God must be by His Spirit since God is Spirit. If you knew Jesus in the body, then you must know Him in the Spirit. In this view, knowing the other side of Jesus is experiencing Him as the Spirit of the word; have FAITH in the word and experience Him as the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there isliberty.”

Jesus, hitherto, had said “I will be with you and in you”. He could only be in you as His Spirit which is the Holy Spirit; they are one with the Father. Therefore, having the Holy Spirit in you is having the fullness of God in you. The evidence of this presence is the fruit of the Spirit, which is the genuine work that is accepted before God. It is doing the work of God faithfully and with humility. If someone proclaims to have the Spirit of God within Him and still does the work of God in form of the works of the flesh, such is regarded as “workers of iniquity”, i.e. doing unauthorized works; there is no reward in it. You must know the other side of Jesus before you could be endorsed for God’s work. Anybody could endorse anyone for God’s work, but that which Satan respects and has heavenly reward is that which heaven knows about.

Acts 2:2-3 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.”

Jesus warned His disciples to wait patiently for this occasion.

Luke 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”

If you knew Jesus according to the Gospel, you must know Him according to the Epistle.

Peter did not know the other side of Jesus until this occasion happened and he became the first person to manifest His experience of knowing the other side of Jesus. He walked with Jesus a far and denied Him when Jesus was arrested. But after knowing the other side of Jesus, he stood to boldly speak to the same people he once ran from.

Acts 2:12-14 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said to them, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known to you, and hearken to my words:

After knowing Jesus as Spirit, Peter’s words were no more ordinary. People stood still to listen to Him. He delivered a message he never spent hours to prepare and there were great conversion and increase in the camp. He became fearless and selfless; not self-centered. His dreams were no more of this world but heavenly. His presence commanded heavenly atmosphere. His ministry broke yokes and the lame walked; even the prison could not hold him.

When you know the other side of Jesus, you carry heavenly order about. No one will be able to guess your movement.

John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.”

You might be known by a particular infamous cloak yesterday and people don’t want to identify with you, truly, after this unusual knowledge you are fire brand.

Beloved, go extra mile to experience the other side of Jesus. Know Him as the Spirit of life and embrace Him as the light of men. This is the message of the Epistles. Without knowing the other side of Jesus, our work in the vineyard becomes so mechanical and full of the flesh. You must identify with Jesus in the body through dying to sin and identify with Him the Spirit through rising in righteousness.

Romans 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:”

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is Acts1-4. Keep the fire of burning and alive.

WASHING OF THE FEET

Bible In One Year-Day 309 (Tuesday, November 05, 2013)

Commentary: John13-16. At this point, Jesus began to walk the disciples into the center of His mysteries; the WORD. The washing of the feet by Jesus has been interpreted to mean many things. All that have been preached with this passage are better taken as meeting the need at a point in time. Thank God, Jesus made it open. In this writing, we are looking at it from a different perspective but pointing towards the same goal. Definitely we agree that Jesus is the WORD. In the word is life and Spirit. We need this for satisfaction in life. Water signifies life and the Spirit strengthens. Whenever we are exhausted, we need fresh water. We could go for days without food, but the number of days we go without water is far too small. In chapter13, Jesus started demonstrating the legacy He wants to leave behind because He knew His time was getting nearer. He started with the washing of the feet. Peter did not understand what Jesus was doing and he was curious about it. Jesus said he would understand it later. Peter then said he would never allow Jesus to wash his feet, just because his curiosity was not answered. This was not rebellion as we might think but reverence to the Lord. Unfortunately, it was a misappropriation of reverence. He was made to realize that his refusal would have a multiplying effect of total separation from the body of Chris; i.e. would be cut off.

The first lesson is that the word washes.

MLB John 15:3 You are already clean through the word that I have spoken to you.”

Just as Jesus said, when we go about, we only need to wash our feet because of the dirts we carry as we walk. This is what He desired we do for one another; to encourage one another in words and in deeds. This is how to let the life of God flow in our midst. Who ever refuses to be washed by the word of God will eventually be cut off from life and that means death and stink. When you are washed, then wash others as well. By this the life of God flows within the brethren.

Secondly, our service to the Lord starts with our love for Him and not for the service. Many want to do the work of God without this truth in them. They prove to love people by doing the work of God. And they get satisfied with the praises of people. Not until we love God deeply, His work is ours and not His. To love God is reflected in living His word; this is what He calls “keep my word”

John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”

Your love for the people hangs on your loving God first. The simple meaning is that the relationship you have with God is what decides the type of relationship you have with the people. Otherwise put in this way, a vertical relationship with God is what your horizontal relationship with the people hangs on; this is what the CROSS is all about and this is the teaching of Jesus as we have read. When the vertical relationship with God is straight and stands right, it holds the horizontal relationship with people in a perfect place. Any flaw in any of these relationships will remove the shape of the cross.

Just as Jesus taught the word so the Holy Spirit does. It is the Lord’s doing.

John 14:25-26 These things have I spoken to you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you.”

For life and Spirit to flow out of the word of God, the love for God must be in the heart and this becomes the force behind the work you do and the strength of the relationship with people. Getting far from the word is to be cut off from life. And without love, you can’t endure and tolerate people because they are naturally sinners. For instance, Jesus asked Peter if he loved him three times before He committed the feeding of His flock into Peter’s hand. Let us wash each others’ feets as Jesus commanded.

Let us seek for the old path where we could find rest. Let us listen to the trumpet’s sound, wherewith we could escape the calamity to come. Our reading for today is John17-21. Keep the fire of burning and alive.
